Are they Clayton publicity shots?

Fisher Quality Foods was a sauce manufacturer owned by the Albert Fisher Group who also owned Plane Trucking, Charles Sidney (Mercedes Benz) and Henry Long Transport in Bratford. :exclamation:

ALBERT FISHER GROUP

Some effort, however, was made to integrate its operations, such as the establishment of a new European Seafood Division in 1992. That same year, the company created its Fisher Quality Foods division through the merger of a number of subsidiary operations.

The company origins traced back to 1920, when Albert Fisher incorporated his wholesale fruit and vegetable business as Albert Fisher & Son. The company changed its name to Albert Fisher Group after adding a number of other companies operating in its Lancashire region. The company extended its wholesale activity into the north and Midlands regions of England in the early 1960s, then took a listing on the Liverpool stock exchange in 1964. Albert Fisher moved its listing to the London stock exchange in 1973. By the beginning of the 1980s, the company’s operations had grown to include several wholesale fruit and vegetable depots as well as distribution activities in potatoes and onions. The company also operated a fleet servicing business for its own fleet of vehicles. The small company, which posted just £6.7 million in turnover in 1982, was losing money–£29,000 for that year.

Sayers of Northalleron are still around although not a transport fleet, they buld and repair tanks, mainly Milkers and have a large fleet of hire tanks including the Ex P+O / forresters rubber liners from the North west, refurbished and hired out. Do Brentaag still use them ?

Sayers from Newbury as pictured were swallowed up by De Rijke years ago and still running out of Stalybridge I think behind Manro.

P&O Roadtankers and P&O Tankmasters were sold off as were H&S in Holland. P&O Containers (OCL) became P&O Nedlloyd became Maersk. P&O European Transport became Wincanton PLC and Pandoro became P&O Ferrymasters iirc

I think J&K Oils are about the only ones remaining :frowning:

Hi Sniffy
The Sayers from the north east are a different company than the one in the photo.I know Cliff Sayer quite well from my days at Direct we hired a few ex p&o/forrester rubber liners off him and also some GPs.He’s a smashing bloke (no hairs & grace’s) to get along with and he has now built up quite a big concern now with tank refurbs + hire.
john

Great photo I forgot aboutt PL Transtore I worked for them for a few months in 1992, run out of Trafford Park from edible Oils Tom Lord

Sniffy:
Did’nt realise how many different companies were involved with edible oils sector, I never knew which fleets were manufacturers own trucks or who contracted out

Some Clayton’s P+O tanks, presuming that the likes of AS Jones and Hemphill’s all dissapeared under the P+O banner or did they run alongside with their own identity and just the flag as the Marque of the group

Sniffy:

I read somewhere that they were doing some road / rail milk tanker work for a while, possibly missing out when they squeezed a few extra litres into an extended ISO Container or when these were surpassed by a swap body unit.

Tankfreight had two attempts at Milk tanks on rail both worked OK but customers never backed it. Not aware of any others but would be intresting to see some pics. There was talk of someone using the Thrall piggyback rolling stock but never actually saw it in operation

There were three or four companies tried it with Chemical/edibles and it seemed to work better, TDG, BRT, P+O and Tankfreight tried it but not certain who else,

Nice pictures of the P&O intermodal tanker, It looks like a GP tank to me not a milk tank. Do you know anything about the manufacture of them? I remember Tankfrieght having some, for milk origanaly I belive, anyway I was told at the time that they had specialy designed baffles as they always go backwards on the train and a normal tank isnt designed to slow from high speed backwards, normaly a tank is designed to go forward at speed and the baffles are dished that way. I dont know if thats true or not or why they need to go on a train backwards. Could be a load of old rubbish, I belive owt

The Milk tankers built by Crane Fruehauf used on the rail projects were just built from slighly thicker steel as i remember, the shell had additional rings to carry the lifting pockets, landing legs and chassis sections were beefed up and the bumpers were a fold away design. The manlid was sunk to meet the rail profile measurements

When the rail projects finished they dropped back into normal service, they just carried a bit less milk! I wonder if “Penrith castle” is still in use

Another Claytons intermodal tank for BRT

Dont know if anyone has mentioned OROBIS that ran out of Hull(BP Saltend).

There is a bit of a mention on the “old Hull haulage thread”, Oribis, Adibis and Crow, along with Calor and Arrow Bulk

Another one gone from Hull
