This DAF CF unit was parked in a DAF garage on Malta the other week.
The colours resemble Shell, so maybe it was operated in the U.K. before being exported to the sunny island.

Apologies ( in advance ) if the photo is not the right way up . I can`t fathom how to correct this problem. :imp:

Cheers , cattle wagon man.

It could be one of Sucklings Transport DAF’s.
They were the only contractor to use DAF’s.

can anyone remember a big tanker firm from Scunthorpe had a lot of Fodens and bulk tankers as well . thank you Trevor

Hi Trevor I think you are referring to " Marshalls " who ran a few Fodens there was also " Tanker Hire " which I believe was part of CSL but the deported old tanker driver who resides off shore will known for sure
cheers Johnnie

hello johnnie yes i remember conslidated CLS they would come to Shotton regularly , later i believe they had a depot in S Wales , when the fleet was all Mercedas . The Fodens i recall came to Monsanto Acrefair . thank youTRevor .

Deported old tanker driver here. Yes,Tanker hire were part of CLS Group and I think they bought out S Protheroe of South Wales fame. The company KK mentioned was Bitmac from Scunthorpe who were benzole refiners with a plant in Scunthorpe and one in BSC Llanwern. The haulage side was called Barworth Transport and they had AEC MK5 Mammoth Majors, two being based at Llanwern, mostly collecting benzole from the local coking plants.

Hi Chris ,thanks for that Bitmac were up and down the A449 like bees ,did they have something to do with E J Meeks ? regards Keith

Hi KK. Not sure but they probably contracted for them. I saw a photo of two Bitmac tankers waiting at Tamworth Services for a changeover.A E Evans did a lot of work for Bitmac - one of the best jobs was pure Methanol from Scunthorpe to the Shell North Sea Gas plant at Bacton Norfolk and wet Methanol back to Scunthorpe where Bitmac extracted the water and sent the pure product back down, you could be on that job for weeks.

Yeh they used to be in Ned/Belg, regular in the early to mid 70sGuy"s/Erfs Think Some of the Lads Used to run out of sully/Penarth Depot? See em Regular in Wallhaven Rotterdam, Cheers Chris.

Chris Webb, I remember A E Evans well, correct me if I,m wrong their yard was in Barking behind the Ship & Shovel pub opposite the Castle Green tower blocks. Also pics of the long nose Scammell brought back some memories from my RAF days when Thomas Allen & Harold Woods used to deliver aviation fuel to the base under the contract held by Petrofina. Fina drivers had to be tipped first but as they were always moaning we always gave them the split drops and kept the straight easy drops for TA & HW as the y would give us lads a lift into the outskirts of London on a Friday afternoon, this was back in 64/66.Remember first attempt at driving Scammell with the gate gearbox and I was only 17 at time.
