mine is on the drive every weekend, and occasionally in the week if i’m lucky enough to get home.
the only time it is left in the yard is when i take any holidays.

i’ve always taken the unit home. it’s always been that way.
i’ve recently started a job on UK work. it’s a crap job with crap money. after the first week i was told i had to park the unit in the yard.
“i don’t own a car, so it will be outside my house at the weekend” said me.
“well it’s been the policy for a few years now, some drivers were nicking diesel, so they have to be left in the yard” said the transport manager.
“i’m not interested” i said.and the unit is outside my house, and not another word has been said.
I thought you parked at UKBAs’ yard…

When I worked for Rxxx, I was parking my car inside the yard. But they were too busy to give me my set of keys, so often when I was back saturday or during the night, I had no access to my car, as it was locked inside. Few times I parked the lorry outside on the street and took a taxi home, but then I got fed up and as they not only gave me my own set of keys, but moaned about parking the lorry outside the yard in this dangerous Industrial Estate, I started to take it home. The fun stopped when one monday I was asked to do a 6 days week and I told them I cannot, as I was driving yesterday. They were surprised and asked how I was driving on sunday as I wasn’t worked. I told them: “well, my car was locked in the yard and I needed to go to Tesco, so I drove your lorry there”.
It took them 20 minutes to organize a set of keys for me (after nearly two months of working there).
Anyway, this company is a laugh. I met the guy who’s now working there driving my lorry. He was taking fuel on Abbington services and he was moaning that the office muppets organized him a new fuel card, which is for vans only and he can’t draw more than 100 litres
He said he tried many ways to solve this problem, finally he’s not giving a [zb] and just take 100 litres at the time.
“next stop - charnock richard” said he and drove off
There’s more than one way to skin a cat Orys! You cheeky boy…
I only did it a few times years ago, but my dad used his unit like a taxi! He would take his wife shopping, drop me off in town to see the girlfriend and every Saturday he would goto the pub in it! Not big or clever I know but thats something he did for years. Whilst he was in the local working mens club I would sit outside in the truck(Scania 111, it was the best truck in town at this point,1981) and use the CB, only problem was when they were playing bingo, you could here me on the CB on the speakers in the pub Oh for the good old days!
Wouldn’t have anywhere to park it

Well if I were you, I would move the Blackpool taxi and park the unit there.
I was on European work about 12years ago and the boss never had a problem with the drivers taking the unit home on days off. It really helped me out as we only had one car used by the Mrs. I could park off the road out of everyone’s way but didn’t bring it home too often as most of the neighbours where I lived were really miserable sods
Several years later we were living in Ireland and I worked for several Irish hauliers. My neighbours were friendly and weren’t bothered how often my unit was parked in my driveway. It seemed to be a normal practice and totally acceptable…
I’ve done it many times with my current boss, even with the trl sometimes

Do you get a new lorry everytime the registration changes?
Be VERY CAREFUL what you post on here as the tax man might be reading this and you will get a nice letter from him with your new tax code about 3k lower for having use of a company vehicle for private use, I.E commuting to and from work!
Sam, do you have permission to post that photo from the driver?

Considering my father is the driver I should hope so, I took the photograph anyway.

I cant see it really matters as those bloody Google cars have mapped almost every housing estate in the UK often spotting lorries parked on grass verges or in drives.
Have a look at your house and see who’s car is parked there while you are at work

Wasn’t parked there anyway he just popped in for lunch and back out again I only took the picture cause of the sheer size it looked in the street, the picture doesn’t really portray that though

It’s sometimes the case that nosey parkers/■■■■ stirrers can use a picture like that to make waves for others.

Hiya…whats this take your truck home thing about… in the 60,s and 70,s lorries was parked
on pubs any bit of spare ground station car parks and many towns had a parking area that
have have been built on… It was the norm to go and do your shopping in the unit.If you had a
rigid there was always a house move to be done at weekend. a carnival to be done in
summer.i had a pal who would go clubing in his unit and leave it on the car park. Now
try telling us that digi techo,s are better than log books.
