Thankfully, they’re not increasing capital gains tax, so most here should be breathing a sigh of relief .
Nasty move typical of a fake conservative govt penalising those retirees who have to carry on working because they don’t have a cushy gold plated civil service type pension, first time ever that the retired will pay national insurance tax.
The only saving grace is i haven’t voted for this govt’s party, or the joke opposition parties, for some 30 years, and never will again, but you could make a fail safe bet in that millions will once again vote for these unconservative shysters and once again expect a different result.

This ^. If voting made any difference, they wouldn’t let you do it.

After reading my esteemed colleagues on the board all getting 48 grand I am going to leave my job and go for it. What would you suggest? Sign up with a few agencies or go straight for a permie job?

I’ve got two contracts that are seasonal, through two different agencies. They pay well and afaik are ongoing for the foreseeable future. One is for 6 months spring & summer, the other 2-3 months winter. It suits me but I have no long term security. If you are willing to take a chance, I’d recommend doing something similar. It’s a kind of half way house to being employed and total, reckless agency ■■■■■.
On your loacation. If you’re in the Outer Hebrides then work will be thin on the ground. Anywhere around Rugby - Northampton- Liecester area should keep your phone busy.
A good agency is more luck than judgement but, they should have long term relationships with their main clients. They should have been up and running for a few years and they should have a decent looking website.
I worked for the national agencies and small family run ones over the years. Some were good and some were awful.

O/p if you’re trying to maximise your money, I would … (Christ I don’t believe I’m saying this ) go for the agencies …, but abuse them, as they gave abused drivers for years. #bootonotherfoot, show them no loyalty, be entirely mercenary and if it means taking a better last minute offer after agreeing to do another job with other agency…show no scruples, go for it.
On the whole and in my experience talking to a couple of mates, that is their type of policy…up to now anyway.
No doubt others on here will have opposite positive experiences with them,… I get that, so don’t bother arguing.
And oh yeh, go for weekends and/or nights (if you have zombie tendencies )
As you can maybe pick up I ain’t an agency fan, and consequently have no plans to practice what I preach.
