Taking the pee? - just a bit

Isnt there an overhang law, that limits how much a overhang, should overhang, before breaking the law on overhang limits…

Just a marker board up to 3m but the general assumption would be the load has to be indivisible eg narrowboat. Otherwise you could put the tail-lift down and strap a couple of extra pallets on the back, which you can’t. Over that, have to notify each police area you drive through etc.

i saw this a while ago, that was bad enough!

2 straps? That’s ridiculous… i’ve held a carpet down with more.

I think that putting a third strap at the rear would have had some “interesting” consequences btw.

:open_mouth: obviously you can’t put one at the rear but it’s an interesting decision and choice to only have two, and the first one so far at the front…

straps are 5 tonne first use then 2.5 thereafter and yes I agree about putting a chain on the back one

Eh? where did you get that one from?

Straps are rated at what it says on the label. Could be 500 kgs could be 10 tonne. No label? Bin it. 1000kgs per row of stitching.
Often the ratchet is rated lower than the strap.
Always use sleeves or edge protectors on sharp edges.
If the strap is returned back to the same lashing point, that halves the minimum breaking strain.

A strap will stretch a maximum of 7% when tensioned. How much will a chain stretch? (you plant lads should know this).

I might have been tempted to have a bash at doing some criss-cross affair underneath from the back corners of the cabin to the back corners of the truck bed.

Assuming empty it will weigh what? <4 tonne? 2 x 5t (assumed) straps holding it down.
It can’t go forward, however it should be restrained from moving backwards.
1 strap either side hooked behind that last plate on the bottom rail pulling forward to the truck. So we’ve now got it restrained. BUT, is it legal■■? Gonna be a hell of a tail swing on it.
