The problem with alienating the public even further is that it would be counter productive, the more connected amongst them putting ever more pressure on Candle in the Wind DePfeffel to allow immigrant lorry drivers already licenced from anywhere to come in.
Might as well stick a bullet in every chamber and shoot both feet off.

Thing is though mate, we did not create this monster but have been placed in it. It isn’t really a problem that we need to sort out by taking lower wages and doing longer hours. When the NHS threatened strike action over their pay, did the public go against them? I think people will be able to see the importance of our jobs and why we need to improve our conditions.
Dimlaith:
3000 drivers saying they will not turn in for the day?
How many will actually go through with it?What is needed is a Union for drivers. To serve us and not
feather there own nest.
Wrong.
What is needed is grown men (not forgetting the ladies) to get a grip & do no work for one day. Time for the weak & frightened to put big boy pants on & gain a bit of pride.
Capitalism in action creates a situation where truck drivers are in the ascendency. We are at a premium in a once in a generation moment. Companies and the public know the reasons why there is a shortage of drivers, so why the clamour for a strike?
Wages are rising, even some haulage rates that seemed set in stone are rising, and the focus is firmly on drivers’ working conditions.
If there were a mass walkout now, no future government would accept the chaos that would occur. So you would only do it once.
The industry is being dragged into the 21st century. Bigger companies will take over and consolidate a lot of the anti-social tramping work, meaning depot to depot running and a better work life balance for drivers.
What seems odd to me is that it has taken so long to get here. Who could not see this coming?
When the only people willing to do your job are tax avoiding gypsies, then surely the focus should be on those companies that encouraged this situation. Vote with your feet, they will fold, and you will have the last laugh.
Strike and get an unsustainable deal, then the vagaries of the market mean it will come back and bite you.
The time to strike was years ago. What right thinking person would work the hours some have endured for years in road haluage? ‘Lifestyle’ truckers make me laugh. Doctors agree you should not be awake for more than 16hrs in any one day, so how can you reconcile that with the ‘15’ so many are prepared to do on a weekly basis.
It has been a long wait, but finally some common sense will hopefully be applied to the industry, and the grip of the macho long hours culture of the ‘real trucker’ will be broken, and it can become a proper job of work for the average joe/joe-ess. and breathe…

A lot of positives there and truths but the reality is the flip flops will be back from somewhere and if it gets that bad they will get them from anywhere, the government will see to that
The money can only go up so far to a point then its body’s they need

I’ve just applied for a job 55k.What do I need to go on strike for?If strike action was called by you’re union, (if you were in one and obviously you are not) it would be to help you’re brothers who are not on 55k… Just in answer to you’re question, a reason why you would go on strike regardless of what you’re rate is.

Go on strike in dispute with your employer, for known aims is fine. Cause a company pain.
Go on strike now, take food off shelves and an unsympathetic gov (guess who) will call it a national emergency and import cheap drivers from all over.
Make a point, yes, but don’t alienate the public and give the Gov the authority to break a strike.
This lot would be only too happy to have someone else to blame for their bad administration and we don’t need to volunteer for that. We do need to keep the public onside.
There comes a point when the public dont deserve what they currently have. The public don
t give a stuff until it affects them personally, that is how empathic the British public are and it is a shame, as it used to be better and people cared more about each other, but we have allowed respective Govts. to divide and conquer.
So you either get off your arses and do something, or you bend over a little further…Me, I am retired now and out of this country of selfish, inconsiderate, ungrateful and uncaring people to live in a bubble on top of a mountain away from all humanity.
Good luck with whatever you all decide to do…One thing though, it is nice to be nice to each other and we should be like that more often, makes life a whole lot more pleasing and fulfilled.

So you are basicaly saying, keep to your extended new hours, keep youre low wages in order to keep the public on our side? They never was on our side. They dislike lorry drivers full stop. They report us as in a previous post thinking it is disgraceful that a lorry driver had the cheek to park in a car park at 8am and did his shopping for 20 mins. Yeah lets not alienate these people and upset them by getting a decent wage and better conditions.
We’re not saying that at all Yorkshire Tramper, we’re saying without a goal or mission calling a general strike by any other name will only hasten the import of thousands of even cheaper foreigners, we couldn’t think of a better way to queer our own pitch than to call wildcat strikes.
If some drivers haven’t the nous or bottle to form their own unions, or too mean or miserable or brainwashed to join an existing union where they work, or even when there are jobs going elswhere with good terms are determined to have the ■■■■ taken out of them for ever and a day where they’ve already had the same treatment all the years they’ve been employed, there is nothing you can do for such people.
What good would a day or three of drivers not turning in for work do, seriously, the whole country would back DePfeffel flying in thousands of Indians, Philipinos, Chinese even, he’d be cherished as the heir to Churchill he imagines himself to be.
Negotiate new terms where you work now, i don’t suggest doing so individually, get it all signed and sealed for everyone.

Ok I see what you are saying now, yes that makes more sense to me. The problem is and always has been the lack of union members and leaves the union members that will fight it out on their own and then the non union drivers benefit from doing absolutely nothing themselves whilst at the same time bleating on about how being in a union is a waste of time and money. But then reap the benefits of the unions. It is annoying to say the least.
^^^ bloody Amen to that.
Those not in the union are the very first to trouser the benefits and the first to moan the rise wasn’t good enough , and don’t forget the biggest beneficiaries of the full sick pay agreement

No. I didn’t say that did I?
I did say to have a clear set of aims, and make life hard for your employer.
One day off at a time will cause headaches and extra costs for companies, not cost drivers too much.
Don’t let’s take action against some perceived insult and try to poke Joe Public in the eye.
.
Extended new hours? Anyone actually working them?
No one is forced to work more, and how would they do that? Threaten the sack??
.
Tossers get upset with a lorry driver shopping? Will a strike sort that out?
.
Some members of the public get upset with us all, because of a couple of bad drivers.
Aren’t you getting upset with all the public, because of a few idiots?
.

No big argument with those.

No worries…
Writing as opposed to talking, it’s easy to assume you’re being understood when you aren’t making yourself clear.
If you were looking at me like I was an idiot your expression might have made me rephrase what I was trying to say earlier.
.
At least that’s my excuse, and if you don’t understand what I’ve just clearly explained, clear off!
After receiving the below pic today I suggested to our shop steward that rather than strike for more pay at our place all it would take would be a work to rule, ie 10 hours a day max. Of course those crippled with debt would ■■■■■ and moan about that, but once they are shown that ultimately it’s in their benefit they should be aboard.
What’s needed is a national hgv drivers union and then we can strike when we all singing from the same sheet

Sorry I disagree with you and your tone is rather aggressive in my opinion. I do agree with your aims but not you method.
