Regards, Garry.

Anybody on here have any photo’s/memories of this firm.
I worked for them as a Drivers Mate 1966-1970, but have no photo,s.
Dave.

my old man worked for strathclyde transport when they had a depot in tipton, west mids. i think it was in the early 70’s. the depot changed to mckelvies and then consolidated with harris when they joined tdg

used to back load from them had to leave your unit and trailer in frood st depot night shift would load it , sometime it was standard load of steel plate, but normally it was a wide load you got, anything from 10ft-14ft wide,
loads were for swan hunters wallsend or haverhill billingham,
caused a few problems when going through penrith then over the a66
has that was the route you were give’n for haverhill, a69 for wallsend.
oh happy days, :

I often used to load back from Scotch via McKelvie’s and Strathclyde when I was on for Midlands Storage of West Hallam. Loved the steel - no roping and sheeting. :unamused:

Sorry no pictures though.

I remember Mckelveys FLYING up and down the A74 in 1973 to 75.
In fact can anybody remember a B.B.C. documentary at the time when a couple of their drivers were interviewed and they were telling everybody how they fiddled their log books :unamused: I believe that the men from the ministry payed them a visit the following day.

That was Paisley depot, they were running a trunk from Paisley to Appeleton Thorn and back.

Aye you boys had the easy end when you sent your trailers up on trunk we had the job of tipping them, they were loaded with plasterboard which was mostly handball in those days.

can’nt remember the bbc documentary about Mckelvies, they did one about sam anderson,: with in the law: they tailed one of sam’s 111scania to birmingham watched him deliver his load then part load the trailer then follow him to their birmingham depot, change trail, then back to scotland, the team that was following him had to call it a day at Preston because their driver was to tired, :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: so got a team from carlisle to finnish the job

Don’t remember Storage doing any trunks, Dave, I used to tramp for them and load back on my own initiative. They did always like us to give preference to fellow TDG firms though.
Your right about the plasterboard though, mainly out of E. Leake and Gotham. All handball off usually. :smiling_imp: That’s why we went looking for the steel afterwards.
