I passed a few static caravan transporters recently, however although it had the wide load markers on it, the cab had no extra mirrors on it, so how does the driver know whats behind them?
the ones i see are double manned usually

My (admittedly limited) experience of wide loads tells me that you use your wide-angle mirrors more than you normally would; as you probably know these things tend to be double-manned too which probably helps.
Most of the tailor-made rigs which cart these things about do tend to have extra mirrors though. We get a lot of 'em round this way and without meaning any dis-respect to the guys who drive them, they’re a bloody nuisance; not so much because they hold you up but some of their ■■■■■■ vehicles behave as though they’re accompanying the Queen rather than a ■■■■■ box.
I have been tarmacing on mobile home sites a few years ago when the transporters arrived and they all had mirrors hanging down below the cab window so that they could see below the load and along its length. Obviously this would only work on the offside, unless double manned.

Rear view cameras
Drop down mirrors welded on to normal mirror
If all else fails put indicator on for 10 seconds then pull out given plenty of warning lol
I used to build caravan transporters and even in those long gone days we always fitted extra mirrors, TK Bedfords were easy, that just consisted of a 9’ tube bolted through the rain gutter and a couple of extra mirrors placed at a jaunty angle.
As vehicles progressed we had to devise new methods and built up some brackets that would clamp to the original mirror arms and onto the cab door panel, these gave a view under the caravan chassis to the rear.

That’s what I used to do lol
Moved a few with a ford cargo rigid a few years ago and never had extra mirrors
Maybe it was more luck than judgement but didn’t hit anything!
