7 a.m - we are not allowed to go out any earlier due to the noise.
I’ve been asked today to give a 4hr time window for my start times, so I told them “anytime between 5-6am”

I wish someone would tell that to the Biffa guys who turn up at 04:45 to empty the bins at the nursing home next door

Back in my days on Brs Oxford ,we had a great tramper called Ron (Rocket )Wilmot , he was asked by transport office to run nights ! he bluntly refused saying if Humans were made to work at night ,god would have fitted headlights in our forehead !!!he never did do nights ,tramped in the day only . rip Ron , by the way mate i got your wee Scania dirty
I always say that I’m like Cinderella, and that if I’m in my carriage at midnight I swear it will turn into a pumpkin, and that in the interest of health and safety that should never be allowed to happen
I was talking to a guy today, he was saying I start work 2am. immediately I thought to myself he must be a lorry driver, no one else would have a job starting 2a.m. Few minutes later what do you know - he turns out to be a lorry driver

Put a complaint in we asked if we could start earlier and were told no.
Councils can investigate complaints of statutory nuisance to tackle noise produced at any time of day or night. They may also issue warning notices in response to complaints about noise above permitted levels from 11pm to 7am. … that the noise is coming from the premises between 11pm and 7am.

I see them traveling all over the place from 6:30am
I’m on a 0915-1715 set run at my place, joys of supermarket work.
Quite a decent time, though it’s taken me a few years to get this job.
I’m on “own account” Class 1 work (although the transport function is outsourced to a “Logistics” company who actually employ me). 99% of the time my planned start is either 0500 or 0600, although I regard it as being a rough target rather than set in stone (I’ll adjust it to suit my own requirements). Finish time is generally 8.5 -9.5 hours after the start time (although often quite a bit earlier).

Some of our rounds are in fairly rural areas so i suppose if we pushed it we would be allowed to drive to the first collection point but not start until 7 a.m the ones you see may have different rules to us but they shouldn’t be starting until 7 a.m.
Noise at night: warning notices
Councils can investigate complaints of statutory nuisance to tackle noise produced at any time of day or night.
They may also issue warning notices in response to complaints about noise above permitted levels from 11pm to 7am. These warning notices can be used by councils for noise that’s not a statutory nuisance.
The warning notice must tell the recipient:
that the noise is coming from the premises between 11pm and 7am
that the noise exceeds, or may exceed permitted levels as measured from within the complainant’s dwelling
that the noise must be reduced to below the permitted level in a specified period (this must be at least 10 minutes after the notice is served and must end by 7am)
what time the notice is issued
If in the yard then no earlier than 5 am due to O licence restriction on the site , but most mornings between 6/7
If out on the road 4am earliest but mostly 5/6 am
The only 1/2/3 o’clock I see are in the afternoon
P/s on general and boxes
My last three tansport jobs were 7am starts until finish usually between 5 & 7pm, these were pallet deliveries, my current job delivering chemicals, is a 6am start and finishing between 4 & 7pm depending on work load!
Start at 5pm every shift.
I used to do 7am starts when I first started HGV driving and was happy with it…pretty much in line with the majority of friends/other workers etc, although that was assuming I’d get finished before the evening rush hour started
had a break from driving for a few years and now prefer either much earlier or much later start times so you’re guaranteed not hitting both sets of ‘rush hour’ traffic, if I could make myself get to bed early enough I’d prefer early morning 1-3am start but basically I can’t so early afternnon start times is now my preference
I start work between 7.30am and 8am with a very unicorn rare 6am start hauling fencing to companies in the south. They all start work after 7am and typically don’t like deliveries sat waiting for them to open the gates. Most of them don’t accept deliveries after 3pm so 99% of the time I’m finished work by 5pm and back home for 1/4 past. Good hours and suits my lifestyle so I won’t be moving on anytime soon.

Rail Freight is very similar to the road haulage in regard to silly start times. At the moment I’m working as groundstaff in a rail goods yard

Sometimes the grass isn’t always greener on the other side.
Got a job transfer within the company and going back to hgv driving, can’t wait to get back to driving. monday to friday working with start times around 6am
I start between 0930 and 1130
Finish 9 - 12hr later.
Suits my lifestyle nicely.
I start around March, when the days are long enough to start & finish in daylight, & finish around October, when the fog starts to get thicker.

I do almost the exact opposite, start work in September, work through the Winter, finish up the weekend the clocks go forward in March then spend the Summer cruising around on my narrowboat. It works for me.

I share your life over accumulation work schedule Harry & love your choice of leisure activity.
I should add I only do around 10-30 shifts in that time-frame & only when I can take my partner along for the journey (hence it’s better to be driving in daylight).
The driving I do is because I have to get my truck fix occasionally & choice jobs are like days out, rather than work, when accompanied.
