My instructor referred to the boxes in their different lorries (all 8 speed) as 4 by 4 and 4 over 4.
The DAF CFs they own have 8 speed 1-4 then a switch to flick for 5-8.
The MAN they have is an 8 speed but its 1-4 then knock the stick towards you to engage high range 5-8 and then knock it away for low range 1-4 again.
That’s what my instructor referred to them as.

Hi. I’m worrier so you have my sympathy. I’ve only just passed myself so can’t be considered experienced, but in a nutshell my advice would be to plan well ahead and give yourself time to get it right, which usually means driving more slowly than you feel like, particularly as you approach junctions! Traffic lights changing used to catch me out - noticeably slow down a bit before green traffic lights until you are sure you are going through and once you’ve decided you are going through then don’t change your mind (how I failed first time)
When it comes to your test imagine the examiner is your granny and you are taking them for a nice smooth gentle drive! I hope the remainder of your training and test go well.

Not posted for a day or two. Had 6 hours yesterday which went well.
And today another 4 hours, I really felt an improvement today. I feel perfectly comfortable driving now. And I was really enjoying it. It’s hard to believe that I could be driving for a job soon going from the bloody hard work I do at the moment. I just hope I pass as I’ve not really got £300 to spend to retake.
Only niggles that’ve been pointed out. Check your mirrors in pairs. He says I favour the right mirror and that I need to follow up with a left mirror check. My blind spot checks need to be more obvious. But it all went pretty smooth today. I’ve still got 8 hours before test day. I just hope I can keep everything in order and consistent.
You are on course for a pass. If you could drive them from day 1 you wouldn’t need training.

your doing fine just keep that neck oiled well and foot off the accelerator when coming up to junctions and you will be fine
by slowing down you give yourself more time to think about all the checks that you should be doing and also whats coming at you !!

Well today went fab. Had one or two miss haps. But touch wood it was good!
I did a mock test at the end and he said he was going to be brutal but I passed with 7 minors.
Approaching a roundabout he said take the second exit. Now this roundabout is right near my house and I drive over it every morning but I still made the mistake of putting my indicator on early. Oops. Which could make people think I was taking the 1st exit.
Another miss-hap was stopping at traffic lights. I did everything perfect he said, kept an eye on the many pedestrians. Followed through in my mirror. So sat waiting at the lights. Park brake on, checking my mirrors blind spot park brake off and rev… And the truck goes no where. I’d done everything except put it in bloody gear! Lol.
Shiiiit. Test day tomorrow! Stomach is already churning! He said there’s no reason why I should fail but it just takes one ■■■■ up! Eek!

I think you mean it just takes you to stop enjoying it to fail
dont go into meltdown now , you just gotta concentrate an give a perfick drive for one hour thats all , if you do think you made a boo boo dont think on it at all just carry on and it will be a minor an your allowed 15 of them (not on the same thing though!!!) im preety sure you can go for one hour with less than 15 mistakes , just try an get a good nights sleep tonight try not to think about it take your wife out for a meal and relax then in the morning come back an tell us all how you passed
oh n dont forget the rescue remedy !!

Failed! Well miffed. Bloody Merc driver came flying at the round-a-bout as I was pulling out. Cause I caused him to slow I failed. I had a clean sheet till then he said. Only got 4 minors after that.
Commiserations. I know it’s irritating that one incident can affect the result, particularly if the overall drive went pretty well. In my case if an artic hadn’t been badly parked half blocking a junction I wouldn’t have gone over that kerb etc. etc.
If you only got 4 minors and that, then next time should be a breeze. You’re obviously good at it - that’s only one fault every 15 minutes.

oh mate so sorry , but as was said you did well and if not for the merc would have been congratulating you now , gutted for you , get that retest booked asap and you will breeze it next time im sure

Bad luck mate. The good thing is, you know you can do it. Just avoid merc drivers
