Andy Bartle is my brother who drove for Dai, my dad was Len Bartle, done a bit of wheeling and dealing with Dai over the years. I had good memories of that transcon, i went to scotland in it a lot in the summer hols when i was in school. My dad reckoned you could hear that old ford coming up to rockwool when it was on full song!

me and dad live in ynyshir where dai is from i rode in that transcon of dais loads of times i also went with dai for a week when i had summer hols when he had his iveco 190.36 turbo new he was still on the rockwool contract then the truck reg wa g146orb but i think dai used to miss his transcon

yanto36:

Yanto36 great photos as always. I will ask the same question as mechanic 77, where did you get the HY-MAC shots from.
The blue and white super comet had a leyland 401 in it and was the last of in Powell Duffryn colours and spent most of its life supplying the production line working internally. The sherpa was used by the parts dept as a run around.
The last vehicles run by HY-MAC in yellow was an A series Ford, a F88 and F86 all of which were bought by my cousin Nigel, and contracted back to them.
Tremendous stuff.
Alun and Terry welcome to the forum.
Paul.

my familys from the ogmore valley,my dad was good mates with Dai,he used to service his trailers when he was on nights in rockwool! plenty of tales to be told there!, sadly dad passed away in march but i always smile when i think of the old stories he used to tell me when i was younger.

Sorry for the late reply been busy in work!. Glad you all like the pics of the Hills Marathon and Hymac trucks, they were taken over at Jeff and Andrew Ways scrapyard a couple of weeks ago and i was shocked to see they were having a a real clearout and after years of being hidden and these beauties were in sight so couldn’t resist taken some phone snaps to post on here knowing they would stir up some memories!!!.

Went over for a throttle cable for my K series Dodge (after it snapped on the way to MOT at the ministry in Llantrisant!) and ended up fitting a bedford throttle cable after some modification, Dodge spares are so hard to come by now.
Dodge is now a fully paid up member of the MOT and tax bracket at last!!!.

Got more photos to scan and upload including a Mobile pit winder Scammell Crusader in NCB colours and NCB F7 8 wheeler tipper which were given to me at the Tonyrefail classic car show.

hi all,
west wales based owner driver, colin wilshaw used to run this bedford tk artic.

colin, later graduated to a ford transcontinental.
