South Wales Hauliers sixties and seventies onwards (Part 1)

This erf was on display in bailey park.

This one parks in a yard near me. I haven’t seen the guy for years but I’m fairly sure thats its Nigel Miles’ truck. He used to drive for a fuel company - possibly Butlers but can’t remember now :unamused: His dad, Bill Miles, used to drive a four wheel tipper for L.Cam and son, where Nigel parks the truck…

Hi Andrew, from what John Wynn told me,sometimes they weighed considerably more!!! depending on how much scrap iron they put in the ballast box. In it’s day…the best heavy haulage tractor in the world!
regards Mark.

Hi all,
A couple of welsh marathon’s :sunglasses: .

Andrew, do you know the story of this one? Apparently its a bit more than it seems in that theres a good chunk of Diamond T 980 under that cab. All I’ve heard is that it was converted by a crane hire firm in South Wales?
Neil.

Hi Neil,
To be honest,I am not that sure.the rear end does look diamond t.the front wheel and axle looks leyland.maybe? Member johnsmith could tell us,I think he built this from the remains of a groome and llewelyn diamond t?bit of a beast :sunglasses: .this one surely is THE WELSH MARATHON.

hi this diamond T has double drive military axle i think they were aec. marathon front axle .■■■■■■■ 250 engine. 9 speed eaton box still driving through diamond T transfer box and antar bumpers front and back. thats all i can remember smiths enterprises got taken over by grayston white and sparrow and it got sent to derby depot and i havent seen it since

here is smiths latest truck with 5 axle faymonville trailer loaded with skid unit 6 metres wide
