Hoover, M.T
Hi all,
This photo appeared on Facebook earlier today.for purely personal reasons it made my day Dny 997c was the first full time motor given to my then 25 year old father just after I was born in 1965,I cannot recall having seen this picture previously? I grew up with the tales of the miles and far flung places the old man went with it.in fact itās this AEC is the very reason this thread has bored
trucknet since 2009 over 601 pages.my heartfelt thanks go out to whoever it was that took it back then and enabled it to be seen here nearly 50 years later.i found the photo via regular trucknet contributor Chris Webb.
Hi daibootsy I remember the Hoover fleet right at the back of que on a Sunday morning my old man made me and my brother sit and wait while he went into the union meetings for hours keys left in ignition of his old zephyr 4 taught myself to drive aged about ten we always had dozens of boxes of persil or daz that didnāt get delivered regards rowley

Hi Paul,
Thanks very much, for allowing us to see this brilliant photos on our threadā¦here are some more.
Hi all. Andrew great story there on DNY. Chris Webb likes his AECās, great photo too.
Daibootsy, cracking photoās of Hoovers fleet of AECās. Did anyone notice the reg number on the first one ended in MT.
I donāt remember those motors but do their replacements, ergo cabbed Mandators, grey and white, before being repainted blue and white. When they went out of service BRS took over the transport.
There is a possibility the AECās were contract motors, someone may have more information. Quite a fleet in its day though.
Regards Paul
Hi Paul
Drove for Hoovers from 1973 to 1979. They owned all of their motors. Only time they didnāt was towards the end and we had Volvo F7s on hire.Totally underpowered compared to the Mandators. They were run on the Scottish trunk. Fully freighted on the way home, slow but comfortable.
When AEC stopped making Mandators Hoovers bought a batch of Foden S83s. Massive cab and 2 small Smiths box heaters. Froze in those things in the winter. Demisters were useless and the windscreen was so far away you had to slide forward off the seat to wipe it.
My regular motor was a Mandator but if it was in the workshop you took whatever was available. Didnāt like those Fodens 1 bit.
