morning paul john.
that reg is most definately cardiff, there was the cardiff local licencing office and merthyr had a licencing office which always gave out HB ,newport had an office along with swansea, also carmarthen had a licencing office which served all of that area.bit of useless info for a sunday morning.

Hi Graham, hows it going.

So UKG was a Cardiff reg. I don’t remember seeing many trucks with that reg, but it looks as if there was 800 registered if not more.
It may of been more cars as there were a lot of new car dealerships in the city.

I do remember Howell’s and Baker’s having a block of continous numbers when they put new cars on the road in August (HB).
I see the new number plates on here and honestly dont have a clue what year they are registered, and believe its twice yearly now.

Ref. TAG.
Hi Graham, as it happens I am renewing my TAG today.
When you first register a car you are supplied a tag/ number plate, which remains with you and transfers to your new car. Each year on your birthday the annual tax is due and costs $60.00 /45quid. It can be renewed for two years max. The tax disc as such is a little sticker that fits on the top right corner of the tag and shows the expiration date and a code that’s listed on the registration document.
You have to carry your reg doc, proof of insurance and drivers license at all times. Checks are done on the spot, no taking them to the local nick five days later. Most states have tags on the rear of the vehicle only, except for semi/tractors which are on the front bumper.
Each state has its own tag design, Florida’s being an orange to tie it to the once flourishing citrus industry, and will have the county it was registered in imprinted in to the plate.
You can order personalized plates at an extra cost, or support a charity or industry such as agriculture. The space shuttle plate was popular a few years back.

Regards Paul.
