End of the day if those who haven’t had Crimbo off for the last 2 year ain’t on a rota then it’s their own stupid fault for not putting their holidays in earlier. Our place do a first come first served and my holidays for over Xmas go in when we are allowed to put our fresh holiday days in which is the start of febuary.
Simple really ain’t it.
A lot of places, certainly retail orientated places, don’t allow any holidays in December.
Been there, done it at 5am on Boxing Day and it ■■■■■.
We don’t run on xmas day,Boxing Day & New Year’s Day,tbh after Boxing Day I’m ready to go back work for some peace
Feel sorry for the milk/farm lads who work xmas day though!
On the flip side my mates works shut down for 2 weeks for xmas so he has to use 2 weeks holiday for that…id rather the 2 weeks off in summer!
I happily give up all holidays that could be taken during school holidays, to let the lads with kids etc take them instead. But Christmas Day, Boxing Day, and New Years Day are mine.
If I was at a place where there was a possibility of having to work any of those days, it had better be on a turn by turn basis, otherwise I ain’t staying long! Best of luck to you boys and girls

Let’s get a few facts straight.
I’ve worked for this company since 2004. NEVER work Christmas day, boxing day, new years day, or for that matter any bank holiday and not required to. There is work available but if you, the driver want.
The ‘draw’. Introduced to allow all drivers a fair chance to get Christmas period off. Historically it was always claimed that favourites got preference and the same drivers kept getting Christmas off, also driver remote from head office complained that local drivers were able to get in first so they never got a look in.
We are throughout thw whole year only permitted a fixed number of drivers off at the same time so as a holiday it was always oversubscribed. With over 80 drivers and only 12 spaces at the time something had to be done. The alternative might have been to not allow extra days over this busy period!
Before this procedure began drivers were asked for suggestions as to how better manage Christmas holiday but no one step forward with any.
For the record I am a driver, and my name is on the list for this year so I’ve got my fingers crossed.
I forgot to add.
Weren’t run Xmas eve, shops shut Xmas day, we don’t run Xmas day as the plant is shut so they don’t make anything for delivery, so I always get 24 and 25 off. It’s the same on the easter break

I would be ill - its that simple never worked any of xmas or new year if I didn’t want to.
when single and xmas didn’t matter I would work it so the family lads could have it off but it was my choice not forced.
I worked at one place that said only staff with young family could have Christmas off. Strange that I didn’t last until Christmas!
I’m sure that can’t be legal, as it’s clear discrimination!
It’s policies like that, that out of principle would make me NOT want to work Xmas, whether I had a young family or not.
As said previously, if the firm is offering decent money for those holidays, I’m sure staffing wouldn’t be an issue…
It was part of their “family friendly” policy! Positive discrimination in other words. I never pushed it, I left for a better job before it became an issue.

we were never forced to offer our services but working alongside the lads with families it obviously meant far more for them to be with little ones than me at 19. however the unwritten rule was they would then in return cover any of us who wanted new year off on the razzle.
maybe it worked because we sorted it out amongst us with the rota people - no manager coming in and poking the nest.
