So Tight They Squeak

splitshift:
Many years ago a small haulier/tight arse git (belive me a tight arsed haulier makes an old farmer look like a drunken sailor on leave when it comes to spending a few quid) I knew used to tell his drivers when turning right or left only let the indicators flash twice any more & it wears the bulbs out! this is true can’t name him as his sons are still in the business, but not quite as tight!

LOL I do this in my car. And I turn off wipers when going through short tunnels

I had an uncle who upon buying his first brand new car, he would not let anyone sit in the back because he thought it would devalue the car if it was used. Also when he finished smoking a roll up, he would open it up and retrieve all the unsmoked baccy.

A long time ago and well before my time, a tipper company in this area used to pay its drivers £12 week (probably 1950’s/1960’s). If however they got any punctures in the week they would have ten bob (50p) docked out those wages. As anyone that has driven tippers will tell you, punctures are far more frequent than on regular road vehicles.

Incidentally the company Aston Plant Hire is still going and into the third generation of the family, but no such deductions in this day and age.

I have worked there!

So do I it`s called recycling :unamused:

Im currently getting no enhanced rate over 40hrs, time and a FIFTH on Saturdays, and time and a half on Sundays/Bank holidays - can anyone out there boast a worse pay structure? As a newbie, Im taking the view that Im getting paid while I gain experience, but I wont be putting up with this grotty package for too much longer. Taking my class 1 in several weeks time, so will see (if successful) if that changes the state of play.

Good luck with the class 1 mate, hope it all goes well.

The only redeeming feature with the pay structure you quoted is that you know it’s bloody rubbish, and you know you’ll drop them like a hot potato once you’ve got past that experience barrier.

Mind you, they’ll just hire another who’ll happily work for it.

Used to be just standard rate for Saturday, rate and a half for Sunday and, for a while, no pay at all for Bank Holiday as “The lorry isn’t earning” but I did negotiate a flat Holiday wage for BH’s after a while though.

Pete.

I get really annoyed with the aggressive charity collectors in town centres, even if you avoid them they walk up to you.

Same here, I donate through DD to a few charities, but now they’re coming to your SITE and trying to make you feel bad if you say no, WTF! I don’t mind giving, but these [zb] are getting out of hand :imp:

Thats because they are on commission  :imp:

Are you talking about Tipper drivers again :stuck_out_tongue:

Recently got a ‘mate’ a job,he’d never of know of otherwise, put in very little effort n cleared over £80k,I got a ‘grudging’ thanks :unamused:
