Snowplows

15 - 25 mm is by the book , most of my route involved country lanes ,that are far from smooth ,all that happens is the rubber wears all uneven ,mostly the snow and ice build up in the “gap” and act as a rubber
believe me it does not take long for it to wear out ,the day driver lost the rubber from around one jockey wheel ,but carried on thinking it was ok as the blade is in float while in use :unamused: , but in less than 20 miles the rubber was gone on that side

OK, I’ll take your word for it.
I hadn’t considered snow and ice filling the gap and acting as a cutting edge.

I can see you wouldn’t want the blade actually resting and rubbing on the road surface, that’s patently obvious. Even so, I don’t get that uneven wear bit with a smaller gap. Even if it does wear unevenly, it’s going to wear to fit the road surface and won’t be any worse than a 40mm gap. That’s what I would have thought anyway.
As you are doing the job, you’ll know better than us who are just seeing the results and making observations.

Carryfast is, as usual, talking out of his arse. So as usual I’ll just ignore his comments.
I have to read them unfortunately, one of the drawbacks of being a mod’ :frowning:

Suggest you get down to your local council highways depot and show them what I said and explain to them why you’ve taken offence at what I’ve said on the topic for some reason and tell them that they’ve been doing the job all wrong for at least the past 33 years and probably before that. :open_mouth: :smiling_imp:

I didn’t say I was offended, I said you were talking out of your arse as usual :unamused:

If that’s what you think fair enough. So just get on to your local county council highways dept and tell them to set the height of their plough blades to 4 mm above the road surface by adjusting the plough wheels and see what they say. :bulb: :unamused:
