As well as winter tyres you can get ‘all-season’ tyres - I used Goodyear 4seasons tyres on a previous car and they seemed a good compromise. Don’t get really bad snowfall in the area I’m in but certainly gave an extra bit of confidence when there was a slippery slope.
In the process of moving back down to the Cotswolds and I’ll definitely be looking at getting proper winter tyres, & if we end up moving to one of the more out-lying villages a small 4x4 will be the order of the day.
