Smoking at an rdc

I even had people smoke on the buses, one woman was smoking a crack pipe Infront of parents with children. I just let them carry on because I was to avoid confrontation and if I’d have kicked her off she would likely have received free travel as an apology.

I just let her carry on… what a hero you are

It’s a police matter, not for me to deal with putting my life at risk attempting to throw a junkie of the bus. When you do a job where your spat at, get threats of violence, death threats on social media then you learn to sit down shut up and turn the wheel, nothing more. The service the pipe incident was on has a police ■■■■■■ through the council estate as well. So yea I did nothing.

Don’t blame you I’ve heard some horror stories from ex bus drivers that makes me think I’d do the same as you.

I saw a guy smoking in his lorry on Friday and just hoped he doesn’t share it with another driver. I’m so glad our drivers (very few smoke) do not smoke in the cab.

Was it Tesco in Nursling by any chance? I got sacked from there in 2002 for throwing a handful of mushrooms at another warehouse OP. Gross Misconduct.

Truck cab generally is a workplace, and so it is illegal to smoke in the cab, not just bad manners

Unfortunately that law Is non existent to many companies. When coca cola closed down and I was tuped and started working from a van, the company we worked for all the managers etc smoked so didn’t give a [zb] about the smoking law.
Relief drivers would smoke in my van and reporting it did nothing. People would smoke in the warehouse. I refused to fill machines in many premises as I would get there and they would all be smoking inside the building. Often I would turn up and say sorry I can’t work in here and then I they would complain to the ops manager who would then tell me to go back there.
Usually scaffolding lorries, groundwork/builders vans, tradesmen etc all smoke inside their vehicles with multiple passengers.
Most pubs in Southampton (well all the ones along Shirley high street and those kind of pubs) the drinkers stand inside but by the door smoking. The law is a complete arse. No one abides by it despite it being law for 15 years.

Rather poor effort from the pubs there. One local here gets the ashtrays out once the smoke police have gone home for the night.

i dont smoke in the cab hence why i was wanting a cig whilst on break getting tipped.

I dont even smoke in my own car if i have a passenger that doesnt smoke.

Steady on…you’ll be opening the ‘getting tipped on a back door bay isn’t break’ can of worms if you’re not careful [emoji19] as a professional you should be taking your break outside despite spending 4 hrs in there reading and drinking coffee!

All our trucks are smoking permitted. Great for me as I’m a heavy smoker.

Surprising.
You`re in the UK? Dedicated vehicle for each driver?

Yes Manchester based. No dedicated vehicles, can be a different unit each night or the same one all week.
I should add, if I worked at a firm with dedicated vehicles and was given a unit in which the usual driver didn’t smoke then I wouldn’t.

Then, as I understand it, that is illegal. No smoking in the workplace is UK law.
There can exemptions if only one person ever drives a vehicle, but since mechanics have to get in the cab, even that is questionable.
Saying the company allows it is like saying, the company allows 50tons, or 70mph. Maybe they say nowt, but they cant` exempt themselves from the law.

Ed to add
gov.uk/smoking-at-work-the- … 20the%20UK.
"Smoking in work vehicles
Smoking isn’t allowed in any work vehicle that more than one person uses, eg:

taxis
buses
vans
goods vehicles used by more than one driver
company cars used by more than one employee
A worker can smoke in a company car that only they use if their employer agrees."

Don’t smoke, but for these people that tramp the cab is their home, be it a temp one, so it is not a work place all the time - not saying that is the law just my thoughts. Your allowed to smoke in prison I am read!

If the truck has only ever got one driver…maybe it is legal…I don`t know exactly, but think not.

What if you you work for a company, your regular truck is broken, but Smokey Joe is on holiday?
Fancy a week working, and sleeping, in his truck? I wouldn`t.

If something is legal it is difficult to argue against it. Since it`s illegal, just tell them no.

Allowed to smoke in prison?
Seems so, BUT only in open areas at certain times. Not in a “small tin box” that some one else has to enter, and even be expected to sleep in.

That`s the theory, I dunno what really happens?
