Small family or large corporate firm

Don’t like little firms ,no fun ringing the boss at 1 am to tell him they’ve blocked the tri in again your meant to be picking up ,youve a puncture so will be back late , you’ve forgot the gate key so he will have to get out of bed at 2 am & come up & unlock the gate for you to get in
Prefer bigger companies as they run 24 hrs so always someone at end of phone to sort problems
Or boss rings sat , don’t go Bingham ( years ago ) as Vosa there , go Melton , But , ffs for once listen Don’t go Bingham , but I’m walking along Grantham high street , ■■■■ who’s driving the ■■■■■■■ lorry !!! Can’t remember big firm bosses ever ringing

I prefer the large ones .They may get bad press but when you are in trouble they go out of the way to sort it.I once had a break down in Scotland on a Thursday evening.Mercedes had no parts in stock.I was flown from Glasgow to Bristol.Picked up and dropped home.Tuesday afternoon flew to collect my truck.

Big firm with all the bells and trims, unionist plus 8 hour day, no weekend work, 8 to 4 would be good, plus about 700 a week with 6 weeks holiday a year, plus all health insurance paid and top of the range motor with all the bling plus sick pay, you would never miss a day if you had all that

of my 25 years on tippers,i worked for a big Company (Redland),and 4 small Co’s. Redland were best by a country mile,2 of the others were ok,with decent gaffers, and the other 2 had complete arses as bosses.
Carryfast was a great place to work, and now been on dhl 11 years…not everyone’s favourite :astonished:  but they’ve been good to me,including when i had an accident at home…the 13 weeks i had off i received full pay.most of the other firms i would have been on gov’t sick pay.

Have all the yellow and red DHL trucks gone now? Every time I see one it’s doing 50mph and just has a plain yellow cab with Deutsche Post written on it. Not seen a DHL logo’d one for a long time. Drivers look bored to tears and comtemplating ending their lives as everything minces past, leaving them standing.

I’ve got to say, for me personally, an own account outfit is best. I’ve been with a supermarket, via sole agency for nearly a year new. I really can’t fault the work. We only do stores and DC to DC trunks and supplier collections. No tail lift kerbside deliveries etc. Our site is run by the supermarket and not a third party, like some in the group are. I’ve personally had no problems and plenty of support from the staff there. Yes, they will pick up on anything they think is iffy, as we’re on Microlise which watches your every move. But as long as you play straight and don’t take the ■■■■ they leave you to get on with it.
All units and trailers are spot on, if there’s a defect, no matter how minor, it doesn’t go out. None of the “You’ll be ok, we’ll look at it later” crap I’ve had elsewhere.

We get a decent mix of distance work and obviously the standard London stuff, but you take the rough with the smooth. One day you’ll be in the dark depths of south London, the next on a three hitter in Norfolk or down on the south coast.
Us agency blokes are planned into the rotas same as the staff drivers and we’re treated exactly the same. I had to do three months on a lower rate, but after that Parity pay kicked in and we get the same rate as the staff blokes. It’s the most I’ve earned driving and definitely wouldn’t swap for ad-hoc agency work again.
