i think i read somewhere that someone had put self levelling cab or was it a bunk into a unit.it may have been a merc or volvo truck at some recent truckshow.
The new Renualt Magnum has this feature. My mate is driving one for Effjerts (sp)out of Holland and rates this as the best truck he has ever driven but the self levelling cab is by far it’s best point.
The old Magnum had a great feature in that the front cab airbags leaked slowly overnight and tipped you out of bed, thus preventing you from oversleeping.

I wonder If I can claim this invention as my own, hang on while i scribble it on a ■■■ packet to nip into the patent office I honestly thought it was a good idea, not that it already exsisted.

Most FH’s seem to lose air out of the rear axle overnight making them lean backwards
The best cab for living in, as opposed to the odd overnight… Volvo VN 780 or VN880, with the duoplus lower bunk that has appeared in the new Magnum…
Failing that, the new Magnum has to be it…
A lower bunk that converts into table with 2 seats, and you sleep in the top one, [zb] marvelous.
The DAF 105 SSC I have right now is ok… but it could do with:
Cup holders!!!
Aircon that works with the engine off
Bigger cupboards with shelving inside
Some cubbies in the passenger side (in that panel that on the driver side has the stereo etc)
Big built in inverter and sockets
Decent voltage dropper and some 12v sockets
A mirror inside so I can see how much grease has magically jumped 20ft from the 5th wheel to me… (it’s true… I have a magnetic personality… only for grease unfortunately )
A stereo that’s loud and DOESN’T OVERHEAT when you crank it up…
All speaker blanks filled with speakers by default.
Curtains that actually block the light
A connector point for an air duster gun built in instead of having to dig under the seat with a pen-knife
More electrical sockets of all kinds
Fresnel lens cut into pass side window glass at the factory
Full climate control, that works power on or off to maintain a constant temperature.
truckyboy:
in my opinion no one should have to sleep in a box…so unless they start providing decent accommodation for drivers…there are going to be fewer and fewer taking up the offer…except of course…our foreign friends…
I am not pretty sure if that’s question of being foreign or not
I think there are some people (like me) who just prefer to have everything in place rather then driving arround, bothering themselves of looking for some hotels, carrying the bags to the hotel rooms, etc, etc.
I used to do similar job to my present one - delivering all arround UK to the city centres (schools, hospitals etc.) only it was on 7.5 tonner without sleeping cab, so I had to look for hotel for every night.
I don’t want even to count how much time and fuel and phone calls I wasted to find accomodation every night, escpecially if I was first time in some places.
Now I have similar job and sleeper cab and I prefer that a lot - just park where you want, you have all your stuff with you, fridge, clothches, everything in the storage compartments or on the shelves.
Of course this is a question of luxury - I drive low cab DAF CF and I am very unhappy with that, but I thing one of these new Magnums would suits me fine.
Only one thing - CLEAN showers at every gas station and as for me problem is solved.
I think it’s not only eastern european way of thinking if you notice how many caravans are cruising up and down along british roads - some people just want to have their own place, even tiny, rather than even luxury hotel room.

I think the British drivers of caravans are just recycled ■■■■■■ anyway orys
You mean that people, who are travelling with some B reg leylands or erfs with antique caravans and who are looking like this guy in the background on that movie?

No I meant these middle class people who block our roads on a bank holiday to go and park in a field next to other middle class people but the ones in your video are ■■■■■■ too
But just aside to the topic: I am fascinated about british (and french, but they are forced to that by peak-time-holiday traffic jams) way of spending holiday.
You are coupling your caravan to your car, you are spending nice day on the M6 or something and then you are spending nice weekend…
… in the layby at A9 or A82…
There are so many beautifull places (mostly empty), why they always are parked next to some main road? The same with joggers or cyclists. I haven’t seen any cyclist or running people on some rural road, they are all always along some A class road with huge traffic.
Why? Becouse they want have easy acces to main road to go to local pub at the evening? And OK, that may be true about caravaning, but runners or cyclists?

I am asking completely serious.
(sorry for that off-topic)
Im sorry too for taking it off topic. I can quite understand Orys being confused about Caravan owners. But Im English and I dont even get it
My landlady left here last week from Melbourne and asked me to look after the house and water her plants.
4 days later the caravan is back so I took her key round and asked her where she had been. Tamworth she replied, Tamworth■■?
