Shower allowance

Is it just me that has never once bothered with a shower when away ? It would sort of defeat the benefits of the sunday night bath.

can remember being stuck at Chiasso border for a few days a few years back. popped into local café in morning for a coffee and noticed showers available for drivers. when asking the owner how much to use the shower was simply told “not available to English”… says it all…

I’m with you all the way  I get in a bath twice a week but NEVER put water in. I get under the shower 3/4 time a week but turn the water on only once…usually Sunday

Save the planet er er er unnecessary burning etc :stuck_out_tongue:

I should make it clear I didn’t pay, the driver in front did , it was Carlisle truck stop, which I’ve only just started using as didn’t know it was owned by company, so showers are free, for me,not sure why he has to pay as I’d of thought it would be free with
Parking , but only 2 nd time there so not sure how it works.
Whatever, showers should be free for any driver who needs one, can’t see why
If damage is a issue they can’t check them after use

First 5 drivers to tell me how amazing I am, get a free ’ green shirt ’ shower token.

I’d rather roll around in my own excrement…

Look on the brightside, some nice new showers at Corley for someone to wreck

I went in Gloucester services the day before it opened in mid may, called back in mid August on the way to Cornwall and in less than 3 months some ■■■■■■■ had seen it as acceptable behaviour to take a knife to the back of the cubicle door and scrape it to ■■■■■ They need their balmools cutting off with a blunt rusty knife :imp:

The new showers at Orwell truck stop are spot on. Victoria plumb at Doncaster have installed showers for all drivers to us. I was speaking to the lass at Daventry rail and they used to have toilets and showers until they were vandalised and the boss closed them. The showers at Newark need to carry a health warning because of the amount of mound in them (just don’t look up while showering).

One thing I hate is constantly having to push a button to keep water flowing and not being able to set the water temperature.

To my knowledge they are free? Isn’t Carlisle £17.70 with shower and 3.50 meal voucher. I’ve never been offered any other option?

Dozy mate, saw this and thought of you

Yep great stuff shame the pretend aint bothered :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

The best showers I use are at Gloucester Services and they don’t cost a penny to use. If I’m going down Bristol way I swerve taking the m6, m42, m5 and take the a46 and park up along there for the night. Then nip into Gloucester services for a shower in the morning. Lovely big wet rooms with dry areas to change & spotlessly clean.

On a more positive note; after a refit there is now a shower at Pont Abraham services. I’ve noticed one or two MSA’s starting to invest some of the small fortune they get from parking fees in improving the washrooms which is a good thing. On the other side, Magor at £27 is bloody poor value and long overdue a make-over.

Roadchef were sold a while ago to a more proactive investor who put up £40 million investment with plenty going on toilets and car parks etc

Is the new shower block open at the Shell garage at Bromsgrove yet? The old showers were the pits, but the food in the cafe make it a top place to park.

If you object to paying for a shower, then don’t have one! It’s really that simple. I’m usually away all week and like most folk like to shower regularly, if I have to pay for that then I accept it as I realise that apart from the golden variety then all showers need to be paid for by somebody. Even my shower at home needs paying for via my water and electricity meters.

if at all possable i try to use a leisure center or swimming pool much better than motorway services which tend to be uncleaned (minimum wage etc etc ) best showers i came across in the old days (oh god ive been doing this too long ) ie 91 were at birmingham shell (i think) truckstop just off j1 m5 west brom clean hot free with parking it was communial with individual cubicals a bit like a minehead no damage because you were not locked away

I feel better about paying for a shower if I do a wee whilst in there. Even clean me tooth in them as well to save time.
For showers with push button jobbies that last about 5 seconds per shunt a cable tie can make a nice reuseable button stop to ensure a constant dribble of water.

Always worth carrying a few cable ties in ones washbag as well as shower gel which does everything from shaving foam to the washing up. Even nice for a bit of lube if some ‘hand solo’ action is needed. My fave star wars character, just hope they dont kill him off in the latest movie.
