Shove your policy up your arse!

Sorry to ■■■■ on your fire Winseer but excesses were same (I don’t have voluntary excess either) still protected no claims and windscreen and I even checked that I have 3rd party on any other car I drive as that’s something a lot of policies are stopping now.
As I said - it is like for like with a little bit more.

Harry Monk:

  1. Set up an email address that you don’t use for anything else.

  2. Go on Confused.com and get the cheapest quote using your new email address and a password you don’t use anywhere else.

  3. Phone Cornmarket Insurance (used to be called Adelaide Insurance), tell them you are an HGV driver, tell them your cheapest quote, give them your Confused log in details including email address and password, they will check it, give you like-for-like cover and beat the price.

  That is the best and cheapest way!!! I’ve been with them 2 years now and pay £180 (ish)for a toyota corolla

Don’t agree with Harry much but this is the best thing I’ve seen him post for a while

Up until my last renewal I was with Swinton but never again. I had a traders policy which cost me £680 per year but when it was due for renewal they wanted to know my annual turnover, told them but they said it was not enough and wouldn’t be able to renew. OK then send me my proof of N/C and I’ll go elsewhere. Went online and found another company but less well known who quoted me £463 with more benefits and no question about turnover. When I printed off the certificates I needed I found the underwriter was exactly the same one that the thieving Swinton lot had charged me an extra £217 for.
Moral of the story … check around before you buy.

How do you go about getting a traders policy■■?
I shift a few cars over the year and would like to do more

I just Googled this:- motor traders insurance policy, did a bit of research into whether it would be worth while and went from there. Initially I phoned my broker then (robbin Swinton) and they transferred me to their commercial section, answered a few questions and bobs ur uncle … I now had a traders policy with restrictions but as stated before have moved on to a better broker. Mine covers either vehicles owned by me or in my charge, ie. I can drive any car or van up to 3.5 ton and the motor is still covered fully comp and also anyone test driving any vehicle but I also have to be in the motor. For stock vehicles you have 14 days to put it on the MID. But be careful if you do take out such a policy as an EU directive demand all paperwork is 100% correct or you could face up to a £5000 fine !! :open_mouth: HTH

Here’s mine for this year…protected no claims, few other bits as per norm (legal cover or whatever), car gets serviced at main stealership which gives 12 month free recovery and onward travel etc so didn’t need a policy with ‘recovery’ included

Got myself a Ford Focus St was with direct line before buying the car for over 10 years, never bothered about the renewal just let go TBH.
Then they quoted me 1500 which I thought was way over the top so I phoned Adelaide and I got it for just under 500 bucks.
Over a grand less than the people I was with for over 10 years phoned them up(direct line) and told them as such and they said they could get it down to 1100 bucks so I told them to do one.
Loyalty counts for nothing screw em

Surely if all they’re going to do is match it you may as well just go with the lowest quote on the website?

No, they will significantly undercut it, they are an insurance company who specialise in insuring HGV drivers in their private cars, there have been numerous threads on Adelaide/Cornmarket here before and a lot of people here have saved a lot of money.

I recently decided to do my bit for the environment and got rid of my little Mazda, so yesterday I picked up my CLK Merc with ridiculous sized petrol engine and contacted my insurers (Cornmarket), the change cost me £28. To me that is a cracking deal, and has ensured my loyalty for another year at least.

I have a fully comp Motor Traders policy, but you do have to watch carefully what the conditions, exclusions and cover are exactly. I have a declared maximum value for vehicles temporarily in my possession and the cover is for basic trade value only, which applies to my own vehicles as well. There are pitfalls regarding commuting to more than one place of PAYE or non mainstream work as well, which catches any agency driving in the net. You have to watch the MIB carefully as well because plod are all over Motor Traders’ as soon as it flashes up.

And loyalty counts for nothing, you will always get a better deal as a new customer than an existing one, so it’s well worth changing every year anyway, never accept the renewal.

Totally true every year I get it cheaper with a new company

+1 always shop around as soon as the reminder drops on the mat. Rarely stayed with the existing company. Do it for everything not just car insurance, house & contents, Gas & electric, mobile phone, TV & Internet the lot, even bank account. You always get a better deal.

Ive got to stop this habit thats developing of agreeing with you Billy - where`s my motivation gonna come from if this keeps happening?

This is where Cornmarket customers win over time, they don’t take the ■■■■ like the usual suspects of the cheap insurance world do with ridiculous admin fees etc.

To be fair Saga are similarly very good value and don’t take the ■■■■ over admin charges either, so good was the renewal on the Subaru the Mrs owns that it wasn’t even worth the time looking on the comparison sites.

By the way Maoster, Mercs take very well to LPG conversion :bulb: , cheaper than running a Diesel long term  , you have two sites at Sleaford currently @ 60.9ppl and several others around and about including one at Horncastle if you get over there currently @53ppl :sunglasses: .

Relax, it’s a trucking forum therefore harmony never lasts that long. A thread will be along soon where we have diametrically opposite views.

Admiral multi-car policy renewal was about £1060 went on GoCompare and got both for a little over £500, the cheapest for one of the cars was actually Admiral :open_mouth: they were not the cheapest for the other car but both added together was still £300 cheaper than their Multi-car renewal price :unamused:

Last year was the first time for years I’ve renewed my policy as it was actually cheaper than the compare sites, I wonder if they are actually learning :grimacing: :grimacing:

dle1uk:
a few years back we used swinton, renewal came and it was a few quid more then it advertised on go compare, and the go compare policy was offering £50 cash back on top, so i went with a different insurer. a few weeks passed then i received a cancellation notice from my new insurer saying I had lied on the application thing, contacted them and it turned out that when they chased my no claims from swinton, swinton had told them I had an accident… even though I have never yet had any accident or claim? contacted my local Swinton office, they claimed I had an accident, could,nt tell me who had contacted them and it was a no claim accident but an accident all the same? now it turns out that anyone can contact the insurer and state you have had an accident and it gets recorded, whether there is a claim or not and in my case no evidence of who you are ect… ended up getting ombudsmen involved to get it removed.

Not wrong.

I recently took out another policy to run alongside my current one, for a Peugeot 206 GTi 180 road rally car, and when the new company wanted a proof of no claims, I duly rang my other company and they e.mailed me it, and on it was a record of an accident they claimed I had. When I rang them up, they said that they got the information from the MIB database, but couldn’t/wouldn’t tell me which vehicle I had the accident in. When I reeled off the vehicles registrations and vehicles that they belonged to that I had owned over the last 10 years, they then said that none of them matched the information I had, and promptly removed the claim from my record!!!

Thank you for the tip Juddian, but tbh I don’t really do the annual mileage to justify the conversion cost. I checked my last MOT certificate and over the last 6 MOT’s I’ve done the grand total of eleven thousand miles!

My g/f drove it back from Aylesbury yesterday following me after I bought it and according to the computer it averaged 39.5 mpg! Obviously that’ll change as my heavy feet get to grips with it.

I renewed my policy with RAC in November. It was £310 for a 2000 Volvo V40. In Feb, the head gasket went, so I scrapped it and bought the first decent cheap car I found. A Citroen Xsara Picasso. Not only did RAC want a £25 admin fee, they upped the policy to £620.
I used compare the market, and got a new policy for £210 for me, or £230 for me and the missues. RAC want me to pay a £140 cancellation fee, but they can shove it up their arses.

You also need to be a bona fide motortrader as virtually all the MT Insurers in this part of the market will request proof your a trader eg your books, adverts or receipts / purchase invoices etc etc to satisfy themselves you are a trader. This is generally when a claim is made but is now days frequently when they’ve had the police on the phone querying a car they’ve stopped you in

Agree with Harry and anyone else who trumpets Adelaide(Cornhill). Bmw Z4 renewal £204. With all add ons, no claims, breakdown, European cover etc £262. Job done. Been with them approx 4 years and they always come up trumps.

I’ve had my traders for 3 1/2 years now and never been asked to provide any evidence whatsoever of being a trader and (touch wood) have not yet been pulled over by the plod even though I have driven all over the place sometimes in my own motor but sometimes in one of my stock motors. Must be my honest looks that does it
edit … I always have a cert of insurance for each car that’s on the road as it can take two or three days for the reg. to show up on the MID.

I guessing you’ve not had any type of claim then

No, luckily not !!
