Shit RDCs

I went to the Co-op at Andover last weekend. Brilliant, I thought, that’ll be an hour on the bunk and I can get me 45 in - as I always do there. So I went in the office, and the first thing I saw was 2 miserable drivers staring into their phones, 5 plastic seats, a drinks machine, and a toilet which is being constantly used by warehouse staff. My heart sank as the clerk said “lock your cab and bring me the keys when you’re on a bay drive”. So, there’s another disappeared into the black hole of whatever.

I got my own back though! On the sign in sheet, where it said “did you use the A303”, I wrote “don’t know”. That’ll hurt 'em!

Sat beside a Stobby driver now, [zb] very poor second. :unamused:

Well done Rob,…i bet the conversation went like this: Hello mate…hit any bridges lately…

The little things, very passive aggressive

You haven’t lived til you’ve spent ten hours in Iceland Swindons waiting room. Yes, 10 hours…

I give them a maximum of 3 hours then I leave. If it costs me a P45, so what?

If you allow someone to treat you like a prick then you get what you deserve :bulb:

Ok, so I’ll try and explain again. :unamused:
Let’s say for easiness the job took 5 hours including sat in that crap hole (say what you like that time is work time, so I want paid for it)
So I book 3 quarters of that time as a ‘break’ I get paid 4 and a quarter hours… losing 45 mins pay.!!

I take my 45 on way home I get paid the full 5 :sunglasses: . :bulb:

They let me away with Jack [zb], that is how they are, so I reciprocate…ie reap what you sow. :bulb:

Arsey? Petty? Awkward? …yeh maybe all 3, but as I said I work only for the money not to pose about in a big truck/big trucker stylee.
Does that clarify ?

Pulling teeth or what.
Sorry guys…bad day.

So you’ve been at work for 5hrs 45 mins after taking break on the way home…and still only getting paid for 5 hrs…?

Thats exactly how I read it as well.

Jeez…Don’t believe this is still running. :open_mouth:
What’s so [zb] hard to grasp here with some of you, or is it ‘Let’s wind Rob up and act dumb day’’
Are we sat comfortably…here goes.
I got paid for every minute I worked.
Did not book a false break sat waiting where I could not call it ‘free time’ and lose 45 mins pay, without a break/much needed kip.
Had a statuory legal break away from a working environment (ie waiting room craphole) instead of getting 45 minutes shaved off my working time for a break,…and finished my day refreshed after a good half hour’s kip on my bunk and 15 mins having a coffee. :sunglasses:

Like I said …pulling teeth.

Nothing would have been false about the break. You are not required to be able to freely dispose of your time for a break…only for a daily/weekly rest.

The last time I was there I took my paperwork in and Angie told me to sit in my lorry and she’d send someone out to me when they required me on a bay. Obviously I immediately suspected a trap, but no, good to her word after 50 mins or so I was directed to a bay and only then sat in the hospitality suite for 30 mins or so. Deeply suspicious.

She’s the only decent one there and I get on well with her. Was looking ill and tired the other day and she told me to go have a snooze in the truck and she’d come get me. Alas she was off on day in question but even then she saw me tweeting about it and rang her colleagues up asking to get me moving, which they finally did

I prefer the bigger picture, I don’t want to risk a job I enjoy for one RDC visit. Besides, I’m paid to deliver goods and if that means sitting in a waiting roon some times then so be it

Yes, I’m sure she actively follows trucker’s Twitter accounts and volunteers to be Iceland’s Distraught Trucker Helpline on her days off. Of course, there’s absolutely no ulterior motive here whatsoever. Oh no, no siree, absolutely not! I bet the office staff had a good chuckle over the poor damsel in distress tweeting their off-duty colleague to “gee them up”, though.

If I have to sit in a RDC waiting room take my kindle turn on read book watch video etc so if have head in book nobody talks

If I have been there more than 4 hours go to desk ask for manager then explain how long I have been there then ask for them to feed me as by law they have to give you a meal on there account so no real problem

Just whatever mate, but I don’t really give a one about the ins and outs or pedantic points on hours regs.
Say what you like, but the way I see it is if I’m sat in a waiting room in work time,.waiting to get tipped,.I’m working,.and I want paid for it…so I aint on a break am I . :bulb:

Even though I am salaried I don’t put my taco on break when waiting to tip weather in RDC or sitting in my cab

The know it all strikes again. I’ve the feeling you’d struggle to find Swindon and you clearly don’t really know how Twitter works. Have a nice evening.

I’ve spent more than my fair share of time sat in the driver room at Iceland Swindon so your “feelings” need some work sir. I also know how Twitter works just fine. For her to have received your tweet she was either following you (why?) or you tagged her personal twitter account in your tweet (double why?). Either way, it’s nice to hear that you’ve got “Angie” on tap to help you get through the day when it all gets a bit too much for you down there.

Actually no there is another way to see the tweet. I tagged Iceland in it and she will have seen their reply as I assume she follows them and Twitter changed recently and now puts replies in the same column as tweets so they don’t get hidden away. Have a lovely weekend sweetness

So she works in a low level admin job, booking in drivers at one of the company’s many regional distribution centres. She’s following the company twitter account (perfectly reasonable) and on her day off is reading tweets from angry truck drivers complaining about how long they’ve been sat there and (again) on her day off, is then ringing her depot colleagues to inform them they have angry truck drivers there and how they need to get it sorted.

Righto chap.

Before you start furiously hacking out a reply, just stop and think about that for a few moments, have a re-read of it, then think about it some more.

No need to furiously hack out a reply, I couldn’t care less if you believe me or not, you’re barely worth the effort at the best of times. Enjoy the sun
