Most People have a Hobby.
A Truck driver who is all Week in his Truck enjoyes to have it nice around him,and his truck is his Toy,his Hobby where he spends more or less Money and time.
OK,i would think he got permission to do this and that, but i don’t judge another as everyone gives his Life his own Signature.
Its like trucknetuk.
Some hate me,other like me during most just getting on with it.And thats the same with everything.
watched a few of the Irish his video, and didn’t liked it,but i like what and how he is doing it and that is it about.its his Life, his Hobby, and you just like watching it.But dont count how much Time and Money it cost, without much Bling at the first
Personally I can’t see the point of blinging up a fleet motor, keep it clean and tidy yes but don’t pour money at it so it looks like it fell out of the tardis. I would like to have an assigned vehicle so I can look after it but I can’t because I work for 3 different companies.
Look after your truck/living space? YES
Bling it up? NO
In the early 1980’s I was given a brand new Volvo F7 there was not even a radio in it and was told if you need a radio you can get it yourself ! which I did and paid for by selling some pallets £3 each 20 pallets nice little earner… when the basic was £85 for 40 hrs.
I don’t have an allocated truck, we have to take whichever is on the bay at leaving time. They are all “fleet-spec” with no extras (and I mean none, although the DAFs have a cab-chiller (well I wouldn’t call it aircon). There are times when I wish I had one all the time so I could add some extras to it to make a it a bit more comfy and a nicer place to spend the day.
When I was tramping I would buy my own cleaning products and liked to keep it clean. That’s no different to Keeping your own home clean.
I’ve never been a bling man, but I don,t have a problem with the blokes/ladies that do,quit like to see them. I would rather follow someone like that into a truck than some dirty driver that leaves bottles of ■■■■ in the back.
For what it’s worth, I am not an avid fan of the curtains but as for the rest of it then it was his money and he wanted it nice!
As a former owner driver and employer I would have loved someone like this on the payroll, for a company that runs trucks or vans or anything that has their name on it a well presented vehicle is the face of that company, it can only be good to keep it that way.
If you don’t care about the equipment you use or don’t give a toss for the company that pays your living then perhaps you should not be working for them - low pay or not. It’s all about respect, some drivers walk about these days dressed like a Willie Betz driver from the 80’s, that is not a good image for the company. We all love to bash Stobarts but at least their trucks and drivers are well turned out.
It says a lot about the individual. How would you like someone else to treat your stuff. I treat everything entrusted to me with the respect it deserves. I’m mindful of the fact the lorry cost my employers roughly the same as a family home in the north of England. I would hope it would be treated like it, if it was mine
"what a load of b----llocks!!!, this topic is about a fellow driver who takes pride in his work tools , you wouldnt see a builder or a chippey not looking after his tools ! would you ? , lighten up and except we are all diffrent , I employ men to drive my vehicles , if they wanted to bling them up then, good im all for it .
i dont see a problem with keeping your truck clean and tidy, i do nights and then day driver takes over, we keep the truck as clean as poss and take it in turns buying cleaning products. if drivers want to bling there trucks thats his/hers choice and should be left at that.
Another thing I do is , supply all the cleaning items ,eg polish in/out window cleaner and air freshners and we have a hoover with a long hose to get right inside the cab , if a truck is dirty he has no chance of saying " im not buying cleaner for your truck " also I let my men clean there cars on site in my time with my cleaning stuff , oh and they are on £11 per hour , for class 2 and 3.5 t vehicles .
Bling can be over the top, but it can be also add to the truck.
If it’s company policy to have a standard, one front to the customer, I can understand that, it’s their equipment, their investment, and a lot of companies spend a lot of money on being recognisable.
However you still can motivate people to keep their equipment clean, in good use without 700 million lights on them, bull bars etc.
But it’s how you tell them, inform your drivers in an early stage, so that they don’t waste money and time on things what you as a company not appreciate.
Every driver if he is reasonable would understand that.
Our company had always the policy, you can do what you want inside, as long as it is legal, safe and you bring it back to original on your expense.
The outside is not to be touched with lights, bars, stickers etc., wheel covers are allowed (and safe you a lot of time when you wash the truck)
I use to be 5 weeks from home and spend an absolute fortune on the inside, super sound system, with massive boom box, flat screen TV, dvd, Original Volvo coffee machine, Black lights, Original Volvo Fridge, extra lockers, real wooden (from the plastic tree) inlays in the dashboard (original Volvo), special mats, Seat covers, matrasses etc etc.
Kept my Truck immaculate inside and outside.
To spend that money doesn’t make you a knob, idiot or whatever, but it’s your choice, no need to defence your choice, other people spend a fortune on football (wouldn’t go there if they give it for free) Formula 1, or booze and ■■■■.
I use to live there more than I live at home, so why not look proper after yourself with all the luxury you would have at home?
Because as you know, trucking is not a live, but a great way to hide from it!!!
Judging by the trucks on the road lots of drivers like to add a few extras. If the company in the OP has a policy of not wanting their trucks decked out i n all kinds of stuff then stick a few posters up stating the fact. By the sound of it, all that stuff wouldn’t have appeared on the truck overnight so maybe they could have pulled him to one side and told him to stop going any further.
Think of it from the customers point of view, they could use it as a bargaining tool the next time rates are discussed. No business wants to over pay for a service and “bling” on a truck is not value-added. Neither do they want to see a tatty old truck turn up on their premises either.

spending money on and making shiny someone else’s property, can’t really see the point in thatSame reason as someone might want to decorate and furnish their rented home the way they want to. Still someone else’s property.
That is why in most tenancy agreements it will state somewhere that permission must be obtained from the landlord before any modifications or decorating takes place.

And your point is?
That he should have asked before buying and adding the bling. As they say, its their truck and their company image at the end of the day.

Oh right yes good point. It would have been the sensible thing to do
