To be fair mate you should think yourself fortunate he put you through your course.
I still appreciate to this day the guy who did it for me when nobody else would, and that was 30+ yrs ago, and I still won’t have a word said against him.
As far as I remember I worked for a reduced rate for about 6 months until I got the experience, and he got his money’s worth…despite all the balls ups I made that go with being a newbie.
Approach him in a couple of months and ask if he will review your wages, give and take mate I would reckon.
We’re having a meeting Monday morning to get this sorted if he comes in. That’s one of the reasons I asked the original question so I don’t go in there with my dummy firmly gripped in hand saying I would like eleventymillion pounds per hour.

Well best of luck for Monday, but I think you should remember that having failed your Mod 4 and test once, your boss has potentially shelled out the thick end of 2k investing in you, not to mention getting you a nice new truck.
So I think as Robroy says, you need to appreciate that your boss needs to recoup his costs, faith and investment in you. As such, I suggest you work out a plan where you pay that back over X time, and then go onto an agreed suitable rate thereafter…
Best of luck!

Balls ups? You? Never. I thought you were a “perfect from the get go” type as well
Another illusion shattered.
Is there no hope left for humanity?

So, your employer paid for you to go through your class two.
You have, presumably, a solid contract of employment.
You, currently, earn – with 0% experiance – in the region of 11.50 an hour.
Sorry mate but you come across as a whinger who wants jam on everything from the get-go!
Shut the [zb} up and get on with it!
… and, mate, duck. Juddian will have a go in a minute!
(… and rather you than me!)

Me neither!
Mind you I did pay for mine myself, top bloke that Reef is I tell ya!
Why not look into the situations vacant see what others firms in the area are offering.
Dont pay too much attention to agency rates though as you never know what the real deal is.
Personally Im on £8.00 ph in South Staffs, general haulage class C which I know is poor. However if I ever see similar employed work in the area the rates are the same . I see plenty of agency work for £9.50 + Which ironicly is why I find myself thinking of quitting a job Ive been doing for 10 years to become a limper.
Personaly Id advise you to gain you’re C+E Asap. There are lot more jobs out there, though of course you will need to spend £££££ to get it.

Currently earn £8 per hour with 10 years experience in the haulage industry.
In addition to driving i also manage our night shift.
One thing I don’t do is whinge on about work, work has to be done, it gets done.
As I have said I was after an average class 2 wage so I would have an idea of real world rates.

After 10 years in the game I’d have thought you should know what the rate should be for your area class 2?
So if it’s £10 an hour for example, I’d say you’re probably on about the right rate, as if you did 48 hours a week for 6 months, that’s 2.5k your boss would have saved. Something I’d view as a fair price for the credit line and faith my boss showed in me.
You are currently getting just above the NMW,which ain’t much for all the hassle that goes with the job.
Depending on the relationship that you have with your boss, you should be asking for at least a tenner an hour…and a gentleman’s agreement that you’ll do 12 months service with him for putting you through your Class 2.
Hmmmmm
Your boss should have put a clear wage structure down in writing plus made you sign a training cost agreement. I had one for six months after passing my test paid for by the employer. After that I got a considerable pay rise.
8 quid is a joke even for a van driver tbh.
i did my class 2 back in 2006 (paid for by my employer)
I was doing 7.5t General haulage/courier work and paid £8.02 ph upto 40 and time and a third after, Sunday’s was double straight through.
Passed class 2 at 1st attempt and he put pay upto £9.02 in line with other drivers. there was talk about signing agreement to stay for 2 years iirc, but nothing was ever put my way, and I stayed with the firm for 6.5 years after.
Appreciate it might be a bit out of date re today’s wages, but just wanted to share my experience.
Quick update chaps, the meeting with the boss went well. He apologised for not making it clear what I would be earning after passing and that it will be sorted out including back pay.
I hadn’t said anything at this point.
Long story short I’m now on fixed salary + night out payment + quarterly profitability bonus

To be fair, class 2 costs around £800 - £900 so even at £8 an hour thats 105 roughly hours to pay that back. So after a month or two he is entitled to a raise since hes paid the cost of the license back. He cant be expected to be underpaid forever just because the boss paid for his license.
However, after rereading the thread its only been a month so its a bit early to be demanding an increase in salary yet. Id say about 5 to 6 months since about 100 - 200 a month would be your “saving” towards paying for the license yourself to anyone whos boss/company pays for the training for them.
Thats my 2 cents anyway

£800-900 is a very low figure most courses cost more, mine cost around £1200. then you have to factor in cpc, retests and medicals plus the time the TM spent sorting it out.
