Security searches,southampton

I’m in and out of Scummer docks often, searches, yep, often, sometimes, thorough, no!

only been there once. I was frisked but they didn’t look in my cab.

You want to try delivering into Sellafield 5 times a week, Bonnet open, mirror underneath and the works. Every single time.

And think yourselfs lucky you don’t go airside at LHR !! X-rays , a multitude of banned items etc etc

Belmarsh prison has got to be the worst!X-ray checks,phone,sat-nav,maps,tools,bottles of water etc have to be left in a locker at security it can put an extra hour or so on a delivery, then customer disputes times on the ticket just to add insult to injury!

At least you don’t have to take your shoes off anymore, when I was an airside driver - aircrew coach driver, airside / landslide about 15 times per day some days - we had to take our shoes off everytime - eventually we got ‘Kevlar toe capped shoes’ and didn’t have to - but the air crew still had to :unamused:
Also, cargo plane pilots had to put their luggage in the hold in case it contained anything that could bring the plane down :unamused: :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Last time I went to the Olympic park they were searching everyone’s cab thoroughly at the M11 logistics centre, 2 blokes in the cab looking everywhere.

Of course it was still a good few miles from there to the main gate :unamused:

Also I had a trench box type affair on that clearly could have been concealing something that you wouldn’t have seen unless you climbed on the body and looked inside.

“What’s in the box driver?”

“Nothing”

“OK, Great”

I had the misfortune of having to deliver to the Olympic park on several occasions.

I never really saw the point of the search on the M11, it was a good distance from the park, wouldn’t have been much hassle stopping somewhere to pick something or someone up.

It only takes a small lapse in security to let a terrorist through, it’s been proved to the woe of mankind lots of times in the past.
I don’t give a damm how many searches they do if it stops those murdering cowards.

Sorry Pat, I think you’ve been in the US too long.

LONG delays and personal privacy invasions in the name of ‘security’ yet we all know that if you want to bring something down / cause damage etc, there’s ways of doing it.

Manchester airport for example, god knows how many man hours stopping you taking a ‘bomb’ or ‘bomb making equipment’ onto a plane, they take your liquids off you etc, then let you go into a shop and buy everything required to make enough of a bomb that’d cause mayhem if not bring a plane down.
Also, the end of most runways is near a road, usually surrounded by trees for sound proofing, easy to take something down with some sort of ‘rocket launcher’, I bet even a firework shot out of a drain pipe at the right time would cause damage if not a crash - maybe not the firework as much as the panic of the pilot or the computer or whatever.

Seriously, there’s no more security now than there ever was, just more security illusions and delays.

Shoes have to come off Wayne , we were given Kevlar boots but they still have a metal strip in the sole which sets the alarms off . :unamused:

Ive noticed the cab searches at Felixstowe are getting a bit more regular lately, although they are always a quick nose in the cab from the step and a look at your rhides card

although I did upset the one port copper down there on tuesday last week by tellling him " If you nick one of the doughnuts I’ll know as ive counted them all before getting out the cab "

Is this a container thing as i’ve never personally been searched, had them look round the unit and trailer whilst i sat inside the cab but thats it.

Were based in southampton and do the docks regularly, its a pain in the ■■■ but having been in the forces it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. Its not the fact they are looking for something, its a deterrent!

When i was on the gates in rosyth during the first gulf war we’d play snooker with the cars and if they got all ■■■■■■ with us the search could take 20 minutes or so,if they were pleasant it was a quick glance over it and away they went.

What makes me laugh about them is they don’t get the driver to open anything, they do it all themselves, I’ve claimed for numerous items, including a laptop because they’ve opened cupboards without checking if anything will fall out first!

Not searched on way in and parked up on berth 105 a.d no checks or.nothing soon find out parked up for 17hrs

Some of the searches at ministry of defence sites take some believing then very much understandable national security similar to the post at sellafield but more intensive search of cab trailor possesions you etc

The security bods at Southampton are well aware that what they are doing is a waste of time, well most of them are anyway,it is very annoying when you are in a rush but at the same time it is far from being the worst set of security measures out there.I have worked airside at LHR,delivered to numerous military bases and various power stations and chemical plants where the measures are a tad extreme to say the least. My attitude is that as long as I got where I need to be on time and that anything removed from my motor is returned in the condition it was taken, then it’s not that bad.I hate the intrusion to my personal space, and some of em are just jumped up muppets, but it’s really not worth doing your nut over.

When you’re in the military and a target for terrorists and weirdos the security measures are not extreme or over the top, you cant put a price on saving peoples lives. Sometimes you get an over zealous person doing it but i would have rather had one of them doing it rather than a lazy ■■■■■■ that just let any old toe rag in!

I have to agree, I delivered a container to RAF Menwith Hill near Harrogate and you get the full works , searches, sniffer dogs , X ray and coppers with machine guns :open_mouth: :open_mouth: . All a bit intimidating , then they ask what’s in the back and you ain’t got a clue.

I once went to Broadmoor, where I was flanked by guards at all times.

I didn’t mind though…especially when I saw the wild, staring look of insanity,on an inmates face,as he was escorted past the area I was working in. :open_mouth:

Either they were protecting you or making sure they didn’t lose you amongst the patients.

Anyway sounds pleasant sort of like Iceland in Enfield.
