Seat Belts

Seatbelt Exemption Certificate .Lucy .Compare and contrast. What is this?Apart from the blindingly obvious, that is. :open_mouth:

I think you’ve answered your own question already! :grimacing:

It’s a legal exemption certificate as I can’t wear a seatbelt most of the time on medical grounds. I have MS and seatbelts trigger a spasm in my chest which at the time of issue caused me to cramp up like Quasimodo, and has since progressed to causing breathing difficulties. It’s nearly always triggered by integral truck seatbelts, and sometimes (on bad days) by car belts too. I wear a belt when I can, as I want to keep safe, but a lot of the time I just can’t.

It be came law if I remember correctly in 2003
I beleive it stated that all vehicles post 1991 (J) should be fitted with them
You can still get one hell of a smack from the steering wheel / windscreen if you go flying forward
Passengers are even wose because there is nothing to stop your whole body going into the windscreen
Also if you do have an accident and your not wearing a belt and get injured the company or companies insurance may not have to pay you whilst you are recovering

You don’t have to wear it if your reversing or have a medical condition or doing drops within 50m of each other

I got pulled in Louth today for not wearing my seat belt, the look on the coppers face was priceless when I said to him if you can find it I’ll wear it , even though my second man was wearing his

for some strange reason only known to DAF in my 1998 CF 85 there is no seat belt on the drivers seat yet the passenger seats got a belt fitted think it must of been built on the friday just before knocking off time

Interesting… I’d always thought that if belts were fitted it had to be for all occupants.

I always wear mine now as i got chucked out one windscreen(LUCKLY screen popped out just went out the open hole :open_mouth: ) so don’t want to push my luck  I’m far to good looking to rearange my features
