hiya,
Marc remember this little C&D motor but never got a go in it.
thanks harry long retired. And just to confuse things, this was MCB 236, but NCB 236 was an LAD-cabbed Leyland Comet, that looked really rather similar!
hiya,
Chris did’nt the Comet run trunk for a while seem to remember transhipping half a trailer load onto it one afternoon had to be in London next morning could have been a one-off though, never had a go in the Leyland either, nice little motor.
thanks harry long retired.

Before my time, Harry!! There is a Leyland Motors photo of another Comet at Covent Garden, though:
Complete with bottom bumper/towbar - the fruit must get through!
Here’s one or two more from Gt.Yarmouth, some of our customer’s vehicles that we were called in to ferry to and from land oilfield sites. This was because most of the blokes who worked these motors on site didn’t have an HGV licence. I even got as far as Spain with the International and Belgium with the 25 year old Transcon but it was mostly UK.

That’s most likely the one Chris not too good at remembering reg no’s, always fancied the trunk but was always a day man once approached Bill about it, no way i’ve got enough at the moment doing nowt i can get trunkers anytime he told me to get a passport and i could have some o’er the water work my reply was i can still get lost in London without getting lost on foreign soil, i think he said something about not getting lost in his time.
thanks harry long retired.

We Bought that Atkinson second hand and it already had bunk fitted. One of our longest employed drivers Colin Watson chose to drive that instead of a new Bedford because he said the Atkinson with the gardiner engine was better to drive and also he liked using that ‘sleeper cab’
Hi again, nice stuff from Haddy, well done mate, heres another bunch.

hi , my supervisor alan greenwood used to work for williams , in the garage years ago and still says he would still be there if they had not of finished, now thats dedication…i have forwarded this pic on to him.
It is not whats in the main picture, it is what is behind the picture. The Ford Transcontinental between the Mornflakes body and the Magirus Deutz with the European flags in the window

Hope these are ok.
Cheers Bubbs.
Hi thanks for posting this pic, and indeed the whole thread.
Thsi is the company my Dad worked for - he drove the other 141 in the fleet. The driver of this one, sitting in the passenger seat, is Bob Kenrick. This lorry used to do the weekly groupage run between Ribro in Rotterdam & Woodcock Freight in Sheffield. Do you have any other info on this photo?
Thanks
Gary

Hi Chris, keeping the Bowker name going, there was a Peter Bowker from Bridgnorth Salop, any relation to the Lancs lads? They ran those little awful underpowered Swedish 81s at one time,a dark blue colour IIRC.
Hi again, nice stuff Chris…no Bowkers today…dont want to bore you lot,but they will return later Deannerr ,thanks for your input, theres a pic for you in todays bunch.
Here we go then.
Cheers Bubbs,

Hello again,Maverick…dunno mate, not doing anything different my end…as usual blame a lorry
That fodens a fair best bubbs and she,s got 240 gardner power. Poplar transport at the pops cafe had a fleet of them
but know one has any photo,s so that,ll do me fine
cheers JohnWhat became of Poplar Motor Transport John, they were all over the place at one time? I’ve seen a pic of one of theirs somewhere,if I find it I’ll put it on.
I remember once watching a documentary back in the 80’s about the then giant US container shipping firm Seatrain. I think that there was some controversy over the funding of this company (alleged mafia links etc) and it vertually became defunct overnight leaving ships stranded and a lot of people all around the world unpaid and out of business. I think Pops had some association with Seatrain and, although it might not have been linked with the above issue, they seemed to disappear about the same time (even the cafe moved accross the road!)
