Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Suttons used to have custom made illuminated signs with the fleet no above the name, Bowkers too - it always seemed quite a classy move to me, kind of marked them out as ‘serious’ hauliers.

Absolutely, MacD - they were actually a factory fit, and I’ve still got the production mould for the Mk.2 version

Here’s a Sutton’s motor at the works:

and another in service:

Cheers Bubbs,

Is that a T reg Atki Borderer? belonging to Trevor Phillips.

I think the last Atkinson’s were made in 1975,so that T reg must have been late registered as T was 1978/9.

Hi again, nice pics Haddy,37 years with the same firm :sunglasses: ,please put some more on…do you recall a Seddon 32/4 with a big sleeper cab/high roof on for L.G.Ps

Hello Bubbleman, we had several 32/4 Seddons but they were all day cabs, although we lived in them. Bartrums had a few sleeper versions and a couple of those ended up in Yarmouth on Norfolk Line with owner drivers.
I’ve managed to scan quite a lot of photos but when I try and post some of them I get “photo invalid” on the screen. In other words some will post and some won’t. I’ll have to wait till my daughter gets time to show me how to post another way perhaps. Best regards, Haddy.

That Mercury mixer ,its got no n/s mirror . . presume the driver went on the tippers

Hi again,I do like it when the smallest detaill gets noticed…yep Mark R a T reg Atki,I dont know if this is the truth but someone told me that it was origanally owned by John Raymond who bought a few but didnt put them on the road til well after the 400 series was introduced…by then no one wanted to drive one of them so they got sold on.
Then Eagle-eyes Suedehead spots the Mercury with no n/s mirror…I’ve had that pic for donkeys years and never spotted that
Ok…todays pics, now then look at the drivers windscreen on this old Leyland, this was late 50s extras…an electric demister with 2 suckers to hold it to the glass…this driver was lucky and had 2 of them  ,I bet Harry,Chris and Dennis can remember them…as for me my old fella had one in his S type Bedford…I’m only a boy at 57

Cheers Bubbs,

Here you are Marc some more pics of F737 RPX before I bought it!

The original owner in 1998 was Hankin Haulage of Four Marks near Alton Hampshire when it was a 6X2

Hello Bubbs, I have posted on other threads with photos.Having just returned from Malta Ive taken a few photos of ex British lorries still working over there.Without realising it all the old ex British buses are being phased out in the next two months. Some of the buses are in excess of 30 years old.The contract for passenger services has been awarded to Arriva. As you can imagine, having spoken to the drivers they are not amused. It cost us approx 54p to leave Valletta and travel 17 miles to the other end of the Island, great value for money.I dont think Arriva will be able to compete on price or the regularity of service that is presently provided. The buses have seen a lot of work on the roads of Malta, they all rattle and shake. But as one of the drivers pointed out that some of the newer BMC and King Long buses, were falling apart due to the nature of the roads. The old buses are very strong and perfectly servicable.I managed to get some interior shots of some buses,as well as exterior ones.Thought it would only be right to ask if it is possible to post the photos on your excellent thread.I dont particularly like buses, but as we all know once they are gone, their gone!! :frowning: :frowning:

Hi again,Nice one Pat…thanks for those, shes been a good workhorse…can we see a few more as she is today, just pop out of the office and snap some,I’d like to photograph her myself but I dont get to Soton much these days…then its in the bloody dark!!.
Rich,I too havent much interest in buses but hey this is a scrapbook…please help yourself, nice to ask but there was no need, this is T/net and its a free site for everyone mate

test

I bet the driver didnt walk away from the Bedford TK…they were death traps if I remember correctly
