The Bedford VAL Chinese 6, I’ve driven one lots of times, I always thought they were OK (comfortable to drive). There was a choice of engines, Bedford and I THINK the other was a Leyland. Early 60’s I used to do a bit of part timing For Wallace Arnold in Leeds, regular job, over to Man. airport to meet the flights from Spain, back to the West Riding. Slave labour but it helped a young fella to pay his new mortgage

We could hire that coach for “The Jolly Boys” outing but I think it would take a week to pick everyone up who is a regular on this site!! where would you start?Scotland?)well thats all the Scotch gone before it crosses the Border!!! Looks like Fergie would be last to be picked up but we could carry on down to Monte Carlo or Nice and terrorise the locals for a few days!!!Dennis.

Do you think we’d best convert the back section into a toilet block first Dennis! Otherwise it could take us a fair old time to get there!!

Originally fitted with the Leyland O.400 and a Turner gearbox with a strange shift pattern, and which was the VAL14 model: later replaced by the VAL70, which had the then new Bedford 466 engine in it.

Now part of Gist, although I understand that there were a few, ermm, “skeletons in the cupboard” that BOC weren’t too happy about when they bought the firm!

bubbleman:

This was one of just 12 specially built by Volvo, 8 of which were supplied to Bowker. They are a shorter version of the already-short Eurotrotter cab, with a chassis modified so that the outfits could be built to meet the ‘Philips Concept’ spec. At that time, drawbars were still limited to 18m, and these motors carried two swap bodies, each 8.05m long.

This one was new in August 1989, and is seen in the depot at Bamber Bridge, just before Bowker transferred operations into it from Blackburn. Because the cabs were a special build and spares would be a problem, the 8 new lorries were accompanied by a spare cab, which was stored around the back of the workshops for rather longer than the life of the lorries themselves!

All the cabs were later modified by Estepe, to increase the amount of room in them:

Thanks for the Tanks  Bubbs :sunglasses: :sunglasses: :sunglasses:

A competition from the 1960,s. I expect its aTesco,s now.

A couple more things to send away for.

One for Pat.

Cheers Phil
