Stop lens getting broke, when struck by stones etc, when not in use.

The spotlight covers were to protect them from road chippings and stones as the glass used to get broken quite regular and would fill with water when it rained proberly made with poor quality glass hence the high proportion of cracked glass on fog and spots and most makes used to advertise their brand on the covers I had “Hella” on the 88 I had but I guess they have improved a lot now .
P,S, they were O K to use with the covers on

So when it got foggy, no need to get out and take covers off. cos they worked ok with them on  No need for covers anymore then because a lot of drivers seem to have the foglights(or are they called driving lights now) on at the slightest sign of darkness, usually on an illuminated motorway, whats that all about ?

Quite agree with you about them driving with foglights on Suedehead. I think the police should enforce that law, only use them when conditions are foggy etc.I always left covers on my lights during the summer months. I take your point about not being much use if you are mobile and need them, but its surprising how many do get broken from chippings and stones. I haven’t bothered to fit any on my newest vehicle, the lights are adequate without adding more.
Cheers Dave.

Thats how number plates used to be white numbers on a black back ground back and front

B&W numberplates were a bit naughty on an “R” reg motor though - '73 onwards should have been reflective, but some big fleets had a dispensation to continue using the old spec, London Transport for example.
