On the last pic, never seen an F88 with 3 windows in the rear of the cab… :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

Cheers Bubbs.

Or a DAF 2800

I noticed that as well with the DAF 2800, Wheel Nut, but I think they might be day cab versions coz the sleepers deffo didn’t have a window in the middle of the back panel.
Regards
Dave Penn;

Day cabs usually have the same back panels as the sleeper versions, the Daf & Volvo are probably specials for one of the Breweries, probably fitted at the dealer too, as I don’t think the Volvo in particular would pass the strict crash tests that Sweden & now the rest of us use. Perhaps the origins of the picture will explain? Come on Bubbs, over to you mate.

Bubbs…I seem to recall someone looking for Manchetts pics  I just found this one

And how about this one then…Parrot nose Dodge with a topline cab :open_mouth:

Hi,Newmercman the pic of the group of lorries was an advert so I suppose they played with the images. :unamused: …Trev nice pic of the Dodge globetrotter

Cheers Bubbs.

Hi Marc just looking through your latest pics and there two on the same page of firms for which I worked for eight years at Pickfords Heavy Haulage and ten years at Shaws but I was on tankers which was run under “Sykes Bulk Liquids” when I started with them and then changed to Shawfleet. Pickfords only had British wagons when I was there and Sykes was Scammell and Foden to start with but I had the first F88 a 290 they got which was CCX509S after driving Crusaders I thought I had gone deaf when I got the 88, congratulations on such a great thread as I have now read it all and really enjoyed it. Johnnie Trotter (AKA as young Jock in the 60s & 70s and Del boy in the late 70s to the 90s)

Indeed they did come out on an S reg, but you could still get an 88 up to a V reg, if you look in the 80’s thread, Hercocks 6 wheel low lowder was a V reg, they were probably old stock.

Hello there,Scanias today.

Hope these are of interest.

Cheers Bubbs.

Hi it was delivered in July so they waited while August to put it on the road and it had a lot of test stuff on for the F10/12 as it had to go into Crossroads every so often for them to check things it was dropped friday afternoons untill monday afternoon and it would out pull anything on the road as well as being a flying machine it was up to 78mph before top split without going into the red so I don’t know how fast it went as the tacho only went up to 80 but by driving in the green it did 8mpg which was very good then as it was only 32tons gross.I can recall the foreman fitter (Frank) at Crossroads Sheffield always took it for a test run and I was lucky if he was back after half a hour.

I was on for Percy Hull of Ayr and we had an 88 and F10 both on S plates

Leggett European had UMD 36S which was an F12, UMD 37S/38S & 39S were 89’s

Nice to see the pic of the WRM Scania. We had 3 come home together 608 609 & 610. They were the first motors to come home in the new WRM livery after we ( R J Woods ) were bought out.
Although they did look nice, WRM were a flash in the pan, and it wasnt long before we were taken over again, this time by Fowler Welch of Spalding.
I believe the clipping was taken in Sheerness docks, and the driver was Jeff Woolwork, but i cant remember why it was taken. What mag did it come from Bubbs.
Heres a pic of the one i had.

Heres one in the original Woods livery.

There was an owner-driver nr Chelmsford Essex had a V reg F88, Trevor Barton, he had it up until 2002 on bulk work. It was re-cabbed in the mid-90’s with an older crome-grilled mk1 cab that he purchased from HeavyHaul (chelmsford) Ltd a number of year’s earlier. Its fuunny. this had come off a Dutch-spec LHD 6x2 rear-lift which was also V registed!!! This must have been re-cabbed at som point too!
Dont know what became of Barton’s 88, it was last seen for sale at John Whiting commercials about 5 years ago, cant remember all the reg but it started VEE —V. Anyone know if it was saved??

Hello once more,Mark the WRM Scania was from a Commercial Motor mate and Straight 8 the Bartons F88 reg is VEE692V

ERFs today lads.

Hope these are ok.

Cheers Bubbs.

That is some serious bullbar on Priestners ERF

So we can blame Britvic Orange for the modern lack of driver skills with ropes and dollies

Bullbar looks like one off a Bedford KM.

What’s the story on the Cotton Trucking motor, London number I think!!

Bumpers like the one on the priestner ERF were once quite common, i think they were a factory option

Suttons had several LV Chinese-six tractors with the same double bumper configuration. One survives in preservation today.
