Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Ah Bubbs…Big J 21 tonner, ‘N’ box, 30’ tandem. 10.30am Booked delivery time, 8am.
I’d be up in the canteen with my roll-ups and a cup of tea, waiting on a shout. They always had a spare radio set lying about to let the drivers know their box was loaded. It could be a long wait…
Life in 1971.

Thanks for the memories Bubbs

Bubbs. : Love the Big J’s, You wouldn’t have a pic of one of J. Hayward & Sons (Walsall) for my ‘Firms around Walsall’ thread would you? I remember they ran a few of those, think the later ones with the big letters G U Y on the rad grill. One driver swopped his round to Y U G  mind, he did stand out from the rest!!

Hi Big g,I was gonna put this up in a few days time, sorry its not a Guy and perhaps its before your time.

Hope its ok

Cheers Marc.

Ah yes! I remember them, they had a good mixed fleet, all British, Scammell, Guy, Leyland and the odd Seddon, until eventually they had to go with Volvo and Scania. Like the crash bar! wonder if they got that off a Bedford TK.
Well thank you Marc for so quick a response, only thing is … I have no idea how to transfer it to the ‘Firms around Walsall thread’ !!

These are brilliant as they are, thank you!! 60s & 70s are fine for an old grumpy like me!!

Another fine selection Marc. I enjoy all the pics you post on your thread, doesn’t matter which era they are from. I drove in the sixties, rode with my Dad throughout the fifties, find the later stuff in more recent times, through to the new ones have all got appeal. Keep em coming Marc.
Cheers Dave

60’s is good for me Bubbs, does anyone remember that Kenworth, I can’t recall ever seeing it. where were york trailers made?

Brilliant pictures on this thread !!

York trailers were made in Yafforth road Northallerton, N. Yorkshire they closed in July 2002 with the loss
of 70+ jobs.

Hope this helps.

JB.

Pure nostalgia great stuff.

Love them all Bubbs, but 60’s and 70’s for me!

My vote would go for the 60s & 70s as well Marc, there was just more manufactures and hauliers around.
