Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

fantastic photos yet again marc, thanks for sharing…

I can only agree with the above comments, fantastic stuff mate. The George Hammond Scania 110 did it for me,although i live round the corner from where Hammonds yard was, i dont remember the Scania. They couldnt have thought much of it though because the later lorries were Atkinson Borderers!!!.
Rgds Mark.

Oh yes you do!

But, a 32T 6x2 Mastiff tractor, 32 tons with a V8 Perkins and 180 ponies (not a patch on 150 or even 120 Gardner shire horses), well, as they say on East Enders (I understand), “You’re ‘avin’ a larf, mate”

Is it me or does the Elliots Foden have an AEC grill?

thats what i thought,it is a bit of a mongril

Marc,

Great pic of the Beresfords LV, its taken coming up through Burslem by the town hall, which has the angel on top, which inspired Robbie Williams to write Angels, I suppose a hit record called Berrisfords would never have worked !!!

keep up the good work

Regards

Ant

Hello again, strange looking motor that Elliots Foden in the last bunch…especially with the AEC grille,a one off I s’pose.Had a great day at Gaydon yesterday, could hardly take many pics as the lorries were parked too close to each other, but a big pat on the back should go to Truckerash for the superb model show…terrific is hardly the word for it,well done mate. Also bumped into a few fellow truckneters and put a face to the user names…nice to meet them.
Righto some pics, another mixed bag if thats ok.

Crap signal today, will put some more on later

Cheers Marc :unamused:

Ok lets try again. :unamused:

In recent time Stan Robinson has done his best to try to get this set up approved but it goes to show the idea was around in the 60s too.

Cheers Bubbs.

Bubbs Can I just add my 10 penn’th to your fantastic thread.
Does anyone remember this firm running from Stalybridge / Manchester in the 50’s & 60’s both pics sent in by Stanfield the bottom one is also one of Sherran’s but in their dark blue livery on contract to “Cary Springs”

And a few cuttings I’ve found that might interrest someone.

Built by NORDE of Derbyshire, with ■■■■■■■ V6’s.

Newsflow (Daily Mirror) Manchester.

240 Gardner:

It’s true though 240. I remember those Mastiffs well - they ferried 30’ tanktainers from Freightliners to Hemphill’s depot which was only a couple of miles.
They had Chinese Six Mastiffs as well and I think the conversions on them were done in-house. Hemphill’s had a serious engineering dept.

And thanks again Bubbs - the photos just get better and better.
Might be an idea to see if the mods can seperate the postings as individual pages - there are lots of comments to most of your postings, and if they were a little easier to scroll through, I’m sure there would be even more.

TIPIT:

Bet that was fun to drive

Hi again, good pics from Tipit, heres another bunch of pics from me…the first is a bum shot of the Mastiff and the second pic of the Guy ,the owners are Fletcher Miller of Hyde Cheshire cos its hard to see the writing on the door.

The last one is for Mark R.

Cheers Bubbs.

The photo of the atki on page one brought back some memories my dad used to drive for joe priestley from newton-le-willows which was part of the cyprien fox group and he had one of them reg no-ctf 790j

With reference to the “double bottoms” These pictures ( sorry about the quality) were taken around '69 - '70.
The bottom right is a French Saviem artic with 2 trailers, the others, Italian Fiat’s, although not artics, they do show the axle configurations that made Italian trucks so interesting, and virtually all of these would have been RHD, at 40 tons GVW.
Some axles either lifted, or steered, or both.

If there is some interest, I will try to enlarge the pictures.

And while you’re on FIATs… check out the “fail safe” parking brake! Not to mention the air con…

Hi again,Wow those Italian pics Fergie, magic mate and the 1 from 240…priceless.

More from me. :unamused:

The last couple are for 240.

Cheers Bubbs.
