Hi Marc I’ve just spotted your post on the 25Jan showing a pic of Charles Gee. Some time ago I mentioned to someone that CC did Ro-Ro to the States and was told I was talking rubbish (Me??). I’m glad to see conformation that I was not imagining it. Any one know if it is still happening? Keep the pics coming. You must live in a warehouse!
Gavin

Note the TIR plate on the front of the Daniel Stewart fridge. It says “long distance runs”. Where was he off to back in 1966 with TIR plates?
That’s one of my dad’s original fleet. He used to scout out routes by car across Europe before sending his drivers across the water. They went to Sweden, Germany, Italy and the Benelux countries mainly in mostly day cab AEC Manadator’s and Big J Guys in the days before Jim McKelvie started importing the F88. Jim turned up at my dad’s yard one day in an 88 demonstrator and told him he’d only leave by taxi after he’d sold him the truck. A deal was duly struck on it I’m told. Different world back then and a whole lot more fun by all accounts.
Thank you acab.
Good old Phil Allen got us into all that good works back then,We did Albania for charity had to have armed guards when we got there untill we left.No running money for tolls Phil said we,d not pay because it was for charity[haha that didnt work] somehow it was a great job and I dont think anyone would have changed anything.

The first pic of the F16 - Mfp from Swindon. Done a stint with them meself,it was “an experience” to say the least !!
The cattle box trailers had curtains concealed on the front bulkhead so that they could be backloaded with general cargo, usually wine.
Trouble was they could only be loaded/unloaded through the back and the tare weight was 19t ish. . always a tadge over on the weighbridge coming back via Pompey or anywhere come to think of it
Hi there,me again…another mixed bag
A couple of names which have gone included today
Cheers Marc.

Did you do that Albania trip that John Williams was on. I am beginning to think I dreamt about it as it seems only me and John spoke about it in detail. If it was the same trip, it upset old John with the negative press.
Even so a diary of the trip would be good

part of walon
I don’t think Tolman became part of Walon, but I will check it out, I think Tolman were off the scene by the time Walon came over the water so to speak.
Tolemans were “absorbed” by Axial, along with Silcocks. Axial, iirc became Ansa.
Also iirc, Walon somehow or other aquired Abbey Hill.
Mr Prowlands would have the diffinitive history of events, though.
