Convoys.

This is a great old photo of Convoys 1935 Leyland, I used to go into Convoys at Deptford to load reels of paper for Newcastle, I also went to their Manchester & Thornliebank depots, I wonder if they are still going I know the paper that used to go Deptford was being off loaded at Tilbury, Regards Larry.

Here’s my last page on Leyland trucks, a photo I took of Tulips at Tip-Con Harrogate a few years ago also included today are a couple of pages on Magirus-Deutz, M.A.N. and Mercedes Benz, on the first page is a picture of one of Atkins Mercs I have also posted a picture I took at their depot in the 70’s of one of their Atkinson’s taken when we pulled into their transport café they had at Findern. regards prattman.

fading in and out it was in Keynsham, spelt K.E.Y.N.S.H.A.M.
As for me I ain,t got nuffink. Cheers Phil.

thanks harry, long retired.

Just a request for information about what I think was a Kenworth.
I saw a convoy of three artics pulling low loaders on Friday in Shaftesbury, loaded with tractors. Two were D N Croft’s, a Scania and a Volvo, the middle one was American, I think a Kenworth cabover, quite a noisy engine. I wondered if anyone can tell me who it belongs to. It was dark blue, as far as I could see. Any information would be appreciated as it was an unusual sight. It looked similar to the Whitwill’s truck back on page 150.

some old Foden News magazines I have managed to keep used to get them regularly and also some sales brochures I have managed to keep, note the size of the mobile phone in the Sisu cab I can remember having one of a similar size when I first started with my present employer nearly nineteen years ago. regards prattman.

Hi Prattman
You have an excellent collection of pics & mags. I still have my Panasonic mobile that I bought brand new in Sep 1988, cost about £1200. It had a cradle in the cab connected to the power and the phone base split in half so the battery pack could be removed and the phone body was slotted into the cradle. Had a proper handset but I had hands free fitted, which worked really well. Little did we know a few years down the line they would be given away with lucky bags !!!
The pictures of the Electra Haul trucks triggered a few memories. In the early seventies I did a course at Ashington Tech. and somehow we got to visit the Derek Crouch open cast coal site where Big Geordie was working. (biggest drag line in Europe at the time) There was 4 or 5 Electra Hauls shifting about 100 tons of overburden each load. I think they had something like a V16 Cat engine. We also got to ride in Big Geordie’s cab while she was operating. Quite impressive. We were told she only stopped for 30 mins every 24hours for greasing.
Among others on the course were John Grady and Doug Whitfield. I understand you still see Doug now and again.
Cheers TYneside

Keep posting photos as far as I’m concerned Telekonsteve, I wouldn’t think anyone will get bored looking at them & it’s photos of lorries that’s made this thread one of the best on the net.
