hiya,
Cracking pic’s as usual Marc quite right to copyright them after the
time it takes you to get them and post them for thicko’s like me who
can barely operate a puter, the “watermarks” are sensitively placed so
don’t take anything away from the picture your’e a star my friend.
PS, and non of those horrible Scania 80s and Volvo F86s
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi Bubbleman ,
Many thanks for the posting of the livestock vehicles.
The Mercedes-Benz 1617 of R. Cox & Sons , - now that is a blast from the past for me.
I regularly used to tranship livestock onto that at Sandbach Services late at night.

Thanks for the (happy) memories, mate.

Cheers, cattle wagon man.

Hi all heres an early one of Beresfords scania 110 in London 1972,cheers Buzzer.

Chris Webb:

Phil,is this one of Butlers? What did Bristol and South-West Tar distillers run,I remember seeing them, and odd times A E Evans ran into their place with absorbing oil from Sheffield.

Hi Chris,
I have been away a couple of days. Went to the meeting that is on next week. Yes the Scammell is William Butler & Co. Most of the lorries were Commer and AEC But also a few Leylands and quite a number of x government Studebakers . The old drivers told me how these flew with petrol engines . They were usefull for tar spraying as being left hand drive the driver could look out the window to follow the gutter and not spray the pavement as well.
Cheers Phil.

Hi CWM,

who did you drive for in your livestock days?

Regards
IIRC CWM had a dog,a crook and a big pair of wellies for driving sheep, but he needed a wheel barrow when working with cattle ( well young fit heifers out of Dentdale!!) Anon1.

ERF EP6 Flat 4x2 Lorry,X231 FPO.
This ERF model is the ERF version of the Turkish-built BMC Professional, and
ERF sold it as a budget 18-ton lorry:-

commercialmotor.com/big-lorr … -dead-duck

The ERF EP6 was a flop;I’ve seen a few of them in the flesh-metal but not that many…I wonder if any have ended up on the fairgrounds - some Steyr-cabbed ERF ES lorries have.

Thats a Parkhouse container, probably with a full length lifting middle deck. I think the assembly on the front covered part of the lifting /winch gear.

CWM would know better.

Aye,…tyneside, winch me in for the information needed to cheerfully help Bubbleman.

The winching mechanism would probably be housed under that protruding front section.
Usually, where the whole upper section is constructed in one piece, the winch motor needs to be of heavier working capacity .
Also , its exterior location means eliminating damage from kicks and corrosion from the livestock [zb] .

Cheers, cattle wagon man.

In 1980 i went to Parkhouse at Milnthorpe to collect a couple of new door springs and they were in the process of building the first container with full lifting deck. I was able to get a good look at the construction. Basically a tray with sides, lifted by cables and a hydraulic ram in the roof.
I think it was for somebody in the Hull area and was going on to a Foden 6 wheeler.

What’s this “winch” business? We never had winches in our day! What are they these days, men or mice? Bah . Humbug. Moan. Whinge. They’ll all be wearing gloves next :unamused:
