Scrapbook Memories (Part 1)

Hiya that MAN in Beresfords livery was a subby called Albert Dale. he was a ERF man through and through
until ERF wouldn’t build him a unit with a BIG ■■■■■■■ and a tag axle so Albert had the 361 MAN off the shelf
and never looked at ERF again.

Hey Marc

Great to see this pic of Dunkerley’s… Another firm sadly gone :frowning: They had some nice kit…

I know they had a couple of tractor units like this - I took this pic at Truckfest when this one was on the stand, fresh out of the box… I don’t think its the same one though…

I seem to remember an article somewhere years ago about these and Dunkerleys saying what a versatile machine it was… They could drag 150 tonnes around one day and the next they could hook up to one of their block trailers and do a decent days work with no loss of payload or any modifications whatsoever. Good lorries…

Hello Paul, yes mate…you’re dead right about Dunks utilising their heavy haulage tractor on blocks when the heavy stuff was quiet…heres a few pics from the fleet,Cheers Bubbs,

Good to see the pictures of Dunkerleys Man 150 tonner C970 HFC, I knew that truck a bit later after it had crossed the Severn bridge, turned yellow and gained an axle and some recovery equipment.

Nice pics of the Dunkerley lorries Bubbleman-the last MAN-K320 NMW was rated at 250 tons I believe and was a 6x6 with 500hp V10 and passed in to the Hills of Botley fleet when Dunkerleys packed up

Hiya. nice photo of the Sunset bubbs. that was only half of the parking i think prity busy as you can see.
the sheds in the background was ici storage, mostly yarn if i can recall, in later years that become Mitchel Cotts,
the Sunset was handy you could nip for a brekkie while waiting in the queue to load.
Trev H will tell us more about the Sunset he lives across the road.

hiya,
Marc I wish I’d a bob for everytime I’ve had my breakfast in there, when I first
started driving and if you was travelling South from the Lancashire area your
route had to pass the “Sunset” unless you liked mountaineering and if going to
London you could go via the A6, but your good self being an old hand would be
knowledgeable about that, “having done a bit like”
thanks harry, long retired.

how terrible for you harry seeing that 80 thingy so early in the day , i should think you need a generous glenmorangie to steady your nerves a bit

hiya,
Yes Dave a man of Bubbs experience should know better, but he is
a fan of the equally rubbish F86 so what do you expect, he can be
expected to upset some of the people some of the time, we don’t
want him going into the huff and withdrawing his services, that is
a definite no no and I would be chained to an 80 grill and shot.
thanks harry, long retired.

Hi again,my sincere apologies to Harry for spoiling yesterday for him    ,heres some oldies for his lordship to look at…proper wagons eh Harry  ,Cheers Bubbs,

Talbot Transport were from Dronfield, between Sheffield and Chesterfield. They did a lot of drummed oil for either Shell or Esso out of Trafford Park. The gaffer’s son was called Gary I think and drove the 110 regular. They also had an ERF “A” Series with the 180 Patricroft and that was driven by Joe Charlesworth,a big mate of mine. Both motors were always immaculate.
I’ve had many a lift in that Scania and the ERF back over Woodhead in a morning when on a dodgy when I was on for A E Evans, both early starters and could be in Hyde for 0600 for another shift.

Hi chaps, heres todays bits,Cheers Bubbs,

Hi All
Just a couple of things the old car in the Sheffield Market is a Lincoln Zephyr.
The other is the Dunkerleys 6x6 MAN did come Hills Of Botley & then moved on to an outfit in Derby way called Lewis.
Cheers Rich

It is very likely that I have “driven” this old girl, when I say driven, if I could get it to move a yard or two, that was enough. I was about 5 or 6 years old and I spent my formative years in one, while the driver was seeing to my dads kitchen lady. :stuck_out_tongue:

If that was Harold Cramms lorry, then it would be me licking the windows clean
