Scania to the rescue

obviously you dont need to be a mind reader when you take out a spare wheel bearing with you when the original ones going to fall off and you do the trip anyway.

And my excuse it is my hobby, ■■■■ breaks and wears out quickly off road, and in the other posters defence not all wheel bearings give you the rumble of death before they blow so preventative maintenance is not always possible

Quick to Slag off the aa ? think its Nissan you should be slagging off here isn’t it ? Think if you’ve bin miss sold anything it’s that Nissan.

Everybody getting confused on here about the AA’s claims about road side break downs. Thay simply and clearly state 80% of the call outs thay go to are sorted out there and then.

This is mainly because most of these call outs are from people who have run out of fuel, thats why its the first question an AA person will ask you “is there any fuel in it”. Most of the other call outs are lady’s who have pulled over and stopped because thay can hear a funny noise coming from somewhere.

Another small handful are minor fixable problems. So you see thay have not miss sold anything. No where have thay said “we fix all break downs on the spot the car has stopped on” It’s people not clearly reading what is being stated. The only thing you bin mis sold is that Nissan. Besides normally you can’t call them out till 48 hours after you have singed up. was a measure put in place to stop this sort of thing going on.

dieseldog999:
would you not think that it might have been prudent to have been a member before waiting for the bearing to collapse seeing as you know its an accident waiting to happen?..typical farmer palmer logic.i.e your all so miserable that you only know how to breath in and wont spend a penny thats not vital?..ive been in the rac for 25 years, have had several breakdowns, never had any problems, either they fix it,or your on a slideback home.i wrecked an enging near south mimms once, and was piggybacked straight home to glasgow.no messing for 400 miles.ive never been messed about with as ive always just paid up front before i broke down.do you wait till your tyres giving some traffic cop 20 lashes before you change it,or before it blows out? itl be a fact that its assumed your a member for a few days before you try to get a 500 repair/recovery job out of them.same for european cover,it dosent work if you wait till you break down then try to abuse their service preventative maintenance might be 2 relative words here.

String and wire again…I have had 4 Toyotas but never even had to carry a light bulb for spares…

I was taking on board what you said until I read this. you can join the AA when you are broken down as they will come straight out, they will however charge you a hefty whack for joining when you are broken down

If I ring somebody who offers a service and I fully describe what I want from them and their business and we reach an agreed cost and this cost is paid up front, as far as I am concerned we have entered into a verbal contract, and what the [zb] is written on the side of the works vehicle matters not a jot to me. Go away and learn the definition of a contract.

That maybe the case now, but some years ago thay had a 48 hour rule. So maybe now thay have chanced how the deal with this situation.

In my experience (albeit I’m only 32 and been driving only 15 years) it must of been a while ago they had the 48 rule. I know green flag had such a rule 5 years ago

Paying a larger premium is a fair shout if someone is joying only after thay have broken down. befor the rise of the internet and mobile phones it was very difficult to blag joining the AA only after thay had broken down.

So the AA had no need to address this lope hole and create a fair policy for everyone. course when mobile phones and internet became something everyone carried and could access at the press of a button every clever cloggs thought hay why pay membership when it might never happen ? ha ha i’ll just join after its happend.

So the AA had to adress this lope hole witch could “and was” now be so easily exploited by thousands of people every year. cant blame them for this if everybody started to do it the company would have gone bust. there looking after there instested just like everybody has too.

To me there a company that runs a fair game, charges a good value service and offer good employment to thousands of people all over the country including alot of lorry drivers who would be out of the job if all break downs could be sorted on the road side. but lucky for alot of lorry driver thay cant all be so road side recovery is needed using lorrys.

I wasn’t disagreeing that it’s fair Why are you arguing with everyone? Small ■■■■■ syndrome?

who said i was arguing with anyone ■■? some very confused people on here this morning

Id imagine most roadside repairs are things like flat batterys fan belts etc a wheel bearing does seem a bit much for a roadside repair. If its a regular problem it sounds like something that needs loiking at.
