Scania 143 500Hp

Don’t know if its relevant to these but lots of older diesel engines used the alternator as a pick up for engine speed, so it would make sense that a fault there would mean ECU doesn’t know the engines turning over so doesn’t initiate fuelling.

What you do is disconnect the battery and give it a squirt of easy start. Then insert the starting handle and wind it round to the compression point. Then you tie a rope on the handle and get a couple of strong blokes to give it a sharp pull.

tried that too Santa:)

replaced altenator last night…truck still not firing:(

gonna be a long weekend!! :frowning:

we’ve all missed the obvious! or if there is fuel, perhaps theres a blockage along the way, fuel filters? is fuel reachin the injectors?

Y did your mechanic give a jump start anyhow ? did you drain the batteries in tryin to turn it over ?

did it start prior to your mishap ?

Yes there is fuel reaching the injectors…

batteries just went dead at the mechanics…was idle for about a week
Was driving fine before jumping it

has it got an imobliser on it and id get the ecu checked out just in case both of thses can stop a truck engine turning over and both can get fried by doing what your mechanics done mate.hope ya can get it sorted

Here’s what i’d try.

Relays in the dash. “You get a similar fault on DAFs”.

Overheat stat on the starter.

Fuses.

Alternator.

Broken wire to the starter solenoid, “now that’s usually overlooked”.

Jammed starter. “put it in gear, then give it a jolt with another truck”.

Where in Ireland are you? Anywhere near coleraine or Garvagh?

Thanks Guys,
Not at the truck today. but will spend all weekend at it.

thanks for the suggestions!!..
looking more and more like it could be an ecu issue.

I actually based in Cork

Will keep you posted…
Cheers,
Eddie

have u tried to change the batterys on it…

Just a thought, but disconnect the batteries and leave it for a while, then reconnect them.

If you contact Daf in Bovey Tracey, Devon, and ask to speak to Kevin Wills. The man is a born genius on those motors, although he finally saw the light and changed marques…

Puts on tin hat and takes cover

Check the immobiliser, I had the same problem on a car. In the end we had to bypass the immobiliser to get it started.

I know nowt about fixing trucks, but were you paying your mate to look at the truck? If you were then he should be paying to fix it.
