Hiya…I,ve just found a book with pictures of a truck the same as this crusader looking thing.
Its a Vickers AWD made in swindon. the engies used are AEC AV 691/760…Leyland 680…and a bedford 460.

Hi,Artic Monkey where did you get the photo of the crocked crusader?I remember that one coming brand new,in fact there were two. apart from a second hand crusader(LAT 64P)they were the only ones with factory built sleeper cabs. All the rest were day cab conversions. They leaked like sieves!I used to spend hours sat on crusader roofs spreading filler on to try and stop the leaks. My mate Pete j from Tadcaster got that(JWY 987V)brand new if I remember correctly.
Hi lilbow73, Do you remember a Roadtrain A477 MUB in the Dartfleet livery in about 1986?
Here is a photo of when I had it:

Wasnt Pat Kennett involved in these CKD to the Southern Hemisphere somehow. I just missed a book on Ebay about Scammell No 8 for about £6
Did they all wear the Leyland badge in Oz or did some of them have Scammell and just the later ones had Leyland on them. I once saw some in Guy motors that had Leyland on the front.

Later Crusaders were built in Wolverhampton by Guy

The older looking of these two blokes is none other than Stan Williamson, who I was talking too a couple of weeks ago. He’s just shy of 84th birthday and still using his Detriot powered Crusader,he’s a bit of a legend in the trucking world over here and a good bugger to have a yarn with. He ran a total of 73 Crusaders over the years including the last ten sold here in NZ in 1983,which he bought as old stock from the Leyland agent. If you find a Crusader here the chances are that Stan had it at some point.
Here’s a night time pic taken a couple of weeks ago on a classic truck run. Stan’s Crusader is parked next to the Ergo AEC that I was driving. You can see how much bigger it is compared to the Ergo and you can also see my bed across the cab of the AEC,I spent seven nights in there, most thought I was bonkers.
