SC speeds Poll - who believes a change is needed then?

im happy enough as it is to be honest,i get all the work they give me done in a day alright, and its nice at times to just sit back, relax and just bowl along nice and steady,id guess the only ones who would want it are salaried lads, and of course planners,so its a no from me

And its my opinion that people that break the law are idiots, stretching it abit saying that’s name calling imo, maybe you should be taking your own advice

The Scottish RHA are lobbying to get the limit raised to 50mph in Scotland - just imagine the English cops smiles just as they drive into England… :frowning:

It wasn’t so many years ago when the main road from Carlisle to Glasgow was 40mph and the polis were like mustard about it!

Do you ever hear of a group of factory workers pleading with their bosses to increase the speed of the conveyor belt so they can work harder?

You must be a top driver if you dont break a law during the course of a working day ,well done! I for one must be an idiot…

These two roads are both NSL (40mph for trucks) Are you suggesting they should both have a 50mph limit ?

It wouldn’t matter to most drivers as 50 would be the max and don’t mean you have to do 50 as long as you make reasonable progress none can say anything. I wouldn’t do 40 down the 2nd road

Well given that all the 40 crew claim it only costs a few mins to go slower it can only gain us a few mins to go faster, your analogy made me smile tho

Whirlwind:
So being on the limiter on an A road would be safe you think

Being on an a road at 40mph with all the suicide overtakers trying to kill you & everyone else in their attempt to get further down the road is safe you think■■? :unamused: :unamused:

The goverment and brussels have to legislate for idiots aswell as ordinary folk, the idiots would look at the above roads and drive down them on the limiter.

By the tone of your post your not a driver that sticks to the limit, yet the suicidal car drivers still overtake you!!!

Whilst there is truth in what you say about legislation I think your are clearly dreaming if you think any normal person would attempt to drive down road 2 on the limiter, they would already have lost their life or licence or both by now if their minds were that is insufficiently wired up, I am as brave as it gets when it comes to going fast as my other pastime is on the race track, but even I can see road 2 would be suicidal at those speeds in a truck.

You totally avoided the question there Whirlwind.

40mph is the law. If 40mph is classed as safe, in reality there is nothing ‘‘safe’’ about it as you end up creating a situation of a conflict between motorists who’s limits are far far greater.

You sit at 40 on a A road and you crate frustration and motorists start to take chances to get past. You do 50 and these risks are greatly reduced.

No i totally answered the question… Speed is not the only reason for suicidal overtaking,So therefore it does not matter what speed you increase A roads to people will still try and get by you , But at 50mph you are in more danger when they are overtaking than you are at 40 mph.

My answer would depend on how im paid. Why would someone paid by the hour want the limit raised?

We,re working longer days, 15hrs…it used to be 12 1/2. Driving longer, 10 hrs, used to be 8. Carrying more, 44 tons, used to be 32. We,ve got double deckers two loads for the price of one. May as well do away with all the speed limits as well eh?

The point is your LESS likely to see the crazy maneuvers when you sit at 50. At 40 it just becomes complete madness. Much safer to do 50 as it limits the conflict and get the flow of traffic moving. 40 just holds everything up and then folk get pee’d off and start doing mad overtakes due to frustration

Well your wrong there, my company has tracking software fitted to all company vehicles & our speeds are monitored. I have no choice but to stick to 40 ish or face Disciplinary action. I have to say in the past i have always driven in accordance with the road & weather conditions. Only since i have been sticking to 40 have i seen an increase in suicidal overtakes. Some places 40 is fine but other places its just stupid & unsafe!!!
