Saviem's fan club (Part 1)

I think this model was powered by a 4-cylinder engine. Nevertheless, the flaps were certainly fitted to ease out cooling air after it hade gone through the radiator.

Things have gone a bit awkward for this Renault of the late 1930s. 12.5 litre 130 bhp engine and sleeper cab.

It looks to me as though the front two flaps let cool air in, those behind let hot air out.
I remember vehicles that had opening flaps in the cab-Land Rover Defenders had them for years-that I used to enjoy in the summer months. Much nicer than aircon. Although nowadays probably less pleasant in town with all the muck in the air…

Interesting!

  • Pics 1 & 2 : Willème TG heavy hauler
  • Pic 5: Saviem SM
  • Pic 6: bonneted Berliet (GLR, GLM or GBH)

What on earth can be Pic 8? Can’t make my mind if it’s right or left hand drive!

A precursor to Tractomas, or a one-off steelworks tug? Combi89, please tell the story.

What model Saviem is/was this? I don’t remember them with a grille panel up there, above the normal grille.

A brace of 340 V8s- surely a desirable restoration project. Have they been saved?

That cab was known in France as the “Club des Quatre”, meaning it was used by Saviem (and then Renault), DAF, Volvo and Magirus.

Indeed it was.

The quiz question is: which model had the extra grille panel below the windscreen?

Thought it was only Mack trucks that had the top grille in club of four cab.

Excellent contribution, sir!

…except Macks had round lights and separate indicators. The blue dead one has a bumper which is similar to the Macks around the internet, but it looks European somehow.

I become obsessed with these little mysteries.

Saviem :

Thanks Fergie, you’ve been extremely busy with all those pics!

I had never seen this one before; maybe a Cottard cab?

Certainly looks like a Boule, but the 'screens are different. Maybe its an early one?

Changing the subject entirely, I just found this:
