For some reason that Willeme always reminds of Darth Vader… So in it’s ugliness, it did became an iconic “figure” although not necessarily lorry related…
So youg’un, how would you discribe yourself… like me, the TV cabbed Bernard, or like the Darth Vader cabbed Willeme.?..your sympathies seem to side with the Willems…I’ve met, and know a few people on this site, believe me, they make that Willems look like a Bernard…no names, no pack drill, they know who they are…

Er…hard question…how to descripe myself…well, I reckon I would side with the Willeme/Darth Vader angle, and not because I wear black clothes most of the time…
But you are more like the Bernard then…? Makes sense, looks like it’s got a big mouth as well… Alright, I’ll get me coat once again…

An unique style, indeed! The cab was manufactured by Douzet. Your pictures show the L 10 B fitted with the 13.6 litre 150 bhp engine; L 10 TB if a tractor.

Hi Dave,
I resemble that remark !
Hope you and Liz are well, she must be out a lot for you to be able to spend this much time on here ?
Thanks for all the pics you and Patrick and others put on here really appreciate them,I know Saviem R.I.P would have given us all any missing information on them.
I had a delivery to Den Haag the other day,and spotted one of v.d. Vlist’s DAF’s near Rotterdam so I pulled up and asked the driver if he knew Patrick,he replied yes but we don’t see much of him these days as he spends all his time on Trucknet !!
By the way that book about the lad who bought the WW1 lorry, was it Mappo’s autobiography ?
Since we seem to have moved away, for a moment, from pure truck subjects I hope you would allow me to post a couple of pictures of my 1980 BMW R65 which I have just finished giving a good ‘going over’.
I have owned the bike since 1990 and brought it back from Spain when I returned here and it has lain in the shed all neglected for too long. But now it’s done and even sports an age related English number plate.

Cheers Richard!
Now about that colleague, if they all worked as hard as me, then they had some time left to spend on Trucknet as well… But to be honest, I’ve been on the sick the past two weeks, but not to worry, I’m back on the road tomorrow morning…
Having said that, I’m up for some bollocking by Fergie most probably…

Well I’m pleased with it anyway!

That’s a real stunner you’ve got there David! Looks immaculete! I’ve always had a fascination for those BMW boxer engines, never had the chance to have driven one though…due to the lack of a license to do so that is…

Hello Richard…hope you’re both well, we’re fine here…it’s the weather, wet and cold, so got a bit if spare time, in between clearing out the attic and dodging the house work Liz finds me to do …
As for the book about Mappo, his memoirs are written in Latin, on a large piece of granite, buried next to the dead sea scrolls…

Gentlemen.

Nice bike David,. I had an R100RS, and my girl friend at the time had the R65 like yours…both decent bikes, did a lot of European touring in the '80’s, bit of a busman’s holiday really…

Would I kick a sick man when he’s down. ? Naaaaaaaaaa. …
However, you better bring lots of money with you to Locomotion, you’ll need it to treat your OAP elders to a couple of slap up meals, and I don’t mean a burger at a burger bar…
DISPATCHER:
Hi Dave
Sure it wasnt 6x6 with a crane fitted Joe Appleton used to operate it most of the time,it sounds more like FOR547 a Foden timber truck?
Hi Chris…No I’m not sure, I thought it was a 4X4, but time fades the old memory box, so it could well have been a 6X6… I THINK it “fell over” once, or even twice in the yard…
The Foden FOR547, definitely remember that old girl, did a few trips in her, dragging wagons out of ditches and fields, especially the winter of '62-'63…I believe she was totally rebuilt, back to a timber tractor, with winch and spades, and on the show circuit,. sure I saw some photos of her in a magazine .

Cheers mate, very kind of you…on second thoughts, are you not feeling a bit under the weather as well, for not kicking a sick man down…
Er…about those meals…will sommat from the creperie will do…I’m not some fortunate pensionado yet you see…
Got permission from my mate to post some of his pic’s, now he’s jumped ship and went to live in Canada, apart from the freezing temperatures (-30 last week) he’s got some stunning scenery to look at…
