To right, worst possible result for Asda workers , :imp:

Not surprising though, Walmart are obviously open to cashing in

Sainsbury and Asda both use outside contractors, Wincanton operate depots for both, DHL do Sainsbury, NFT do a lot of consolidation work for Asda and have moved into the Asda Rochdale site from Middleton to use the excess space at that site.

Rochdale I believe are the only Asda depot using outsiders and that’s Wincanton. Actually I think Doncaster Is Wincanton too .

Asda Northern Ireland distribution is run by Wincanton out of Asda Larne DC.

Isn’t this deal now dead in the water?

Have Driver Hire lost the contract to supply drivers to Staffline?

I’d argue it is Sainsburys that are in dire straits here, rather than ASDA.

Sainsburys conracts are paying their drivers a lot less than ASDA and the other supermarkets are already - so I don’t see how Sainsburys can compete in these times where “driver shortages” - even if temporary as a result of the Brexit Run-up - are going to take their toll upon “The Weakest Link”.

John Lewis - have also announced another crappy year as well, of course…

Imo Lidl and Aldi are setting the prices now - “keep up, or drop out”.

Just look at what the markets think with the sainsburys stock price!

And they say asda are just about to overtake js as the second biggest supermarket.

I know this is a driving forum - but people have to question where js place in the market. Waitrose is where the snobs shop. Aldi /lidl are also the darlings of the middle class. People don’t want huge shops anymore. They want convenience and sainsburys doesn’t offer that.

Wouldn’t be surprised to see them drastically scaling back in the next few years. I might be totally wrong of course.

Everyone’s sales were up apart from js. Waitrose didn’t look as impressive as they are propping up John Lewis but they are mega profitable and their market share is growing.

I used to work for Sainsbury’s (in store) and they used to aim to be a cheap Waitrose/m and s. When the financial crises kicked off they chose to try and compete with Aldi and Lidl which they just couldn’t do with their structure and overheads. They then alienated their main customers but didn’t attract new ones.

They have cut back staff so service is shocking which was always their main selling point. The quality of products was also reduced to save money. They should have held their ground and would probably have taken some of the growth that Waitrose and m and s have had.

It will be the pension decifit that will finish them off. It was secured on the stores when the Qatar take over was happening to prevent the shops being sold to asset strip
