and heres me driving around in a 14 year old volvo FL10 with no so much as an exhaust brake
seriously though, ive driven a new actros recently, didnt have the lane thingy or the slam on the brakes thingy, but the hill start thingy was great. bit annoying that when i got it up to 100 kmh and set the cruise it kept flicking back down to 99 though (yes i am irish, how did you guess)
I drove one of these last year. it was a left hand drive on german plates. The active cruise control was great for overtaking bans. Just had to set your distance and it would keep it perfect. You just had to watch it when gaining on trucks on hills. If you didnt get out into lane 2 quick enough then it would brake, then you were knackerd for the hill! The lane guidance would cut in if you didnt signal when joining lane 1 after overtaking so you always had to signal back in or turn it off. It would only be really of use if you were tired…in which case you shouldnt be on the road anyway!
I’ve been driving trucks with abs for a few years now. It NEVER works! And to illustrate the point I went out to pick up another driver and at one point had to go for the brakes and THIS ONE TIME it worked! And we both said “■■■■ me I’ve never known it to work before!”
As for the automatic braking when someone cuts in (and truckers are the WORST culprits) you’ll end up going backwards! My take on that idea would be to have a high pitched alarm in ALL vehicles and when they cut in the alarm goes off in the culprits truck…err car!
Stability control would just mean the ■■■■ who flip 'em over would be able to drive that bit faster before seeing the world like an aussie!
As for lane control I can see drivers switching off with stuff like this although it’s handy for when you’re texting or reaching for a cuppa!
