Running bent carrying fertilizer?

glenman:
maybe it was gloria that answered when paul was out ?

Are you saying that he is Paul through the week, and only “Gloria” at the weekend…while relaxing  . Oh ■■■■! he won’t like that opinion will he  , Now I,m gonna get some stick

As has been said IF it is ammonium nitrate and the fella is working for growhow they specify in the contract that you MUST park securely at all times in registered lorry parks or yard… VOSA and the police understand this as it only takes a small amount to make bombs etc so 30 mins wouldnt be looked upon too badly.

Run over hours to protect temperature sensitive material. Moi!

Danger to persons health if late home on bingo night.

20 years more purgatory if I miss the planned celebration of the last 20 years.

All these are valid excuses that can be written on a printout or card

peirre:
I suspect

You are correct that I don`t know the guy, I was working from the information you submitted when you posted the thread, but I did use the phrase “I suspect” to give him the benefit of the doubt, but because he chose to accept the advice of his boss and run over his hours rather than arrange to swop drivers to get the load back to safe parking, my suspicion is doubtful.

As for giving an honest opinion before hitting the submit button, maybe you should have thought of the possible variety of replies, inc those that you may not want before hitting the submit button when you posted the thread titled “running bent carrying fertilizer” as you seem to emply that maybe he was running bent. If the thread was entitled “going over your hours carry Fertilizer” maybe you`d have got an alternative answer

Unless it was just driving time he was short of, then asking his boss to collect him and driving the lorry to the secure parking is the same. He has not had a full daily rest period either way.

Your not the first to think this. So no stick heading your way!!!

Reason for the nickname, I’m a fat lad and got named after the hippo in the film Madagasga.

I was having a bad weekend last weekend so if I offended anyone by my rant then I apologies.

ANDY1961:
He’s been driving 20 years and he needs his mate to come on here and ask a question about the type of load he’s carrying and how it equates to Drivers Hours! And then his mate, Paul Gloria M, gets his knickers in a twist when Peirre suspects (quite rightly) a likely scenario.

He needs a rest, 20 years■■? he must be bloody shattered.

certain fertilizers are highly explosive
maybe that would explain it

They are not explosive on their own, it’s only when mixed with some other stuff like some oils that they can become naughty.

And the vast majority of vehicles used to transport it also carry a couple of hundred litres of a suitable fuel oil, in a convenient tank on the chassis…

AFAIK its Ammonium Nitrate and Deisel, no idea beyond that though, if it was a load of A.N. I’d want it in a secure place

Yeah, I suppose there’s different types of fertilizer, if it’s the type that can go boom, boom, i’d say the driver would be ok pretty much doing anything to get the load back to a secure yard.

Ammonium Nitrate is probably the most common of the most dangerous.

Sodium & Potassium nitrate are dangerous for the same reason - Nitrates are oxidising agents that mean if you mix them with pretty much anything powdered, then it becomes an explosive mixture - and Yes, Flour, Custard Powder & Sugar counts here!
There are other oxidising agents that are not nitrates, and therefore don’t have use as fertilizers. (Eg. Hydrogen Peroxide Hair Bleach).
Bone Meal is safe, as it is not an oxidising agent being a phosphate rather than a nitrate.

Sodium Nitrate has another peculiarity (same as Sulphuric Acid) in that if it is not SEALED properly, it actually gets heavier from water absorbtion from the air (hygroscopic) which means being loaded to the brim with Sodium Nitrate with some of the bags being split for example, makes your load go overweight in a matter of hours!

As all fertilizer is transported according to the fias code (or should be),then even the driver should be aware of the sercure parking rules that are set out within fias that cover all fertilizers, this should be information/training given to the driver by the company.

Vosa should know of this and he’d be quite within his rights to go over his hours to find sercure parking, but not by too much. It’s more of an issue that his boss is obviously not giving him the training in the first place.
