roping and sheeting

Cat and Fiddle sounds fine to me ROF, does the (somewhat extortionate) price include some snapping and a Helicopter ride? If I can sheet a load in the Tornado like winds that are prevailant up there then I shouldn’t have any problems with the simple loads that Bewick Transport specialised in. Have to be quick though, another fortnight and the Cat will be closed with snow !

Pete.

Not to worry ROF,

Dennis is so keen to show us all how it’s done, he’ll be inviting us students round to Bewick Towers for a course on the 40’ he keeps on the gravelled drive - if wet in the conservatory.
Refreshments to follow in the Ballroom.
A collection to be taken following the demonstration in aid of the ROF pension fund.

Here’s my latest ‘sheeting’ job. OK it’s only plastic sheets on the porch windows but it’s the only sheeting i do now. No need for any critic gents, just having a little fun.

Hi all, sorry to ■■■■ in on this fine thread, but I just had to say Johnnie that
that 10 bob note looks to be in pristine condition…straight off the press by the look of it. :open_mouth: :open_mouth:
It reminded me of when I was earning a fiver a week in the 60,s and on Payday used to change
the £1.00 notes to 10 bobs…seemed to go further. :unamused: :unamused:

I can remember my Grandad telling me tales like that one of Johnnies about the Queens shilling Pete. I think Queen Victoria signed them up before our time.

I am most gratified to realise that so many of my fellow posters are keen to support my efforts in improving my lifestyle. Sadly I have to disappoint the potential students as it appears that Bewick Towers Plc has instructed it’s chief executive that on no account is he to rent out the premises for anything less than the going rate. Obviously this would preclude individuals such as myself from using the venue as a base for the Overpriced Roping & Sheeting Course. Especially as there seems to be some confusion in the North East that a “tenner” should cover the cost. I fear that our friend Mr Dunbar is still living in the age of the ten bob note that Johnnie so conveniently displays.
I believe that the course would still be viable if we could persuade the current resident of Bewick Towers to hook up his preserved forty-footer to his preserved Big J/240 Gardner and drag it down to a venue somewhere near the middle of the country. Coincidentally, I am reliably informed that even a driver of Bewick’s limited talent and ability should be able to park the outfit in the car park of the Cat & Fiddle pub. Pete will be expected to provide the appropriate sheets on loan so that, in the event of the wind wresting them from untrained and/or inexperienced hands, it would not be too far for him and that nice young Mr Punchard to search the country lanes in that blue wreck in order to reclaim them.
Once again, thank you all for your continued support. I’m sure you realise that I have only agreed to hold this course in the furtherance of teaching long-forgotten skills of the British transport industry. And, of course, in an attempt to supplement my Basic State Pension (but I don’t want to harp on about that).

Basic State Pension eh, strange that you never EVER mentioned that ROF! I reckon that Mr Bewick could fund it OK, he helped MOTEC out of the goodness of his heart a while ago so this equally worth cause will surely tug at his consience? I did change the duvet cover today in the bedroom so have now got the basic skills required, just need a little fine tuning now to perfect things. Will have to try roping the missus to the bed tonight, if she struggles enough it will surely replicate a strong wind! I will let you know how I went on, if I am still able to use my fingers of course.

Pete.

Rof if we start doing it up there we will be mistaken for the regular hang gliders that frequent the said area ,however if Dennis uses one of my high quality blue pvc sheets with 12 mm bungees on he will certainly get clear of winter hill and possibly land somewhere between the lune and killington lake .ooh and what’s this blue wreck business ? many of my awaiting restoration projects are covered up with sheets from the hedge row lost by lazy old timers !

I hardly EVER mention my Basic State Pension, Pete, as you well know. I was just overwhelmed to be asked to help Maggie out when she was in need and I’m sure if she were still with us, she would remember with gratitude all I did for her. If I make make so bold as to offer a tip with reference to your marital activities, I think you will find that if you use a double dolly to each of the bed’s four legs (I assume you are still using the Vono bedframe that your granddad bought new?) you will find you have adequate purchase for most purposes.

Dan, earlier in this thread I mentioned that I had become privy to a method of obscuring a certain national company’s initials from sheets. Have a look at it- it may be suitable for the red ones that you found that bear the initials of a shady outfit from ■■■■■■■■ The plastic flysheets belonging to this company may present more of a problem and could well result in you having to hide the logo by using them inside out.

Can’t tie a dolly Rof, never had cause to need to do one being only a tipper driver, so that (I assume ?) would add even more cost to this adventure! Best give it a miss I think, I haven’t even got a state pension yet so unless you do IOU’s or chip and pin I am brassic. No VONO beds here either, only orthopedic I’m afraid, but I do have a couple of their spanners in my tool box!!

Pete.

Don’t worry, Pete, you will be welcome to attend the prospective course in an observational capacity. There will also be a small reduction in course fees. You will, however, still need to accompany that nice young Mr Punchard on his sheet retrieval duties as he is keen to show you how to toss a folded sheet over the side of a tipper without giving yourself a hernia. Whether he chooses to invoice you for this valuable piece of training will be at his discretion but I will be taking the standard 10% from all subcontractors’ earnings as is the custom.
In view of your admitted lack of experience with haulage ropes may I suggest you familiarise yourself with the excellent range of products from the Spanset company. I understand that they can supply restraint equipment which even Derbyshire chaps will find easy to use.
