Yea but we’re talking “big league” here Dan’l not “skateboards” Cheers Denz’l.

Ha ha i used to load out of Ferranti ■■ at Oldham with misiles for Harwich without the explosives , instructed not to leave the vehicle unattended at any time and it was a 2 man job … its a good job they didnt have trackers then as i did what Chris Webb was doing on a regular basis cowboys eh !
A R Marshall &Sons Hucknall Lane Bulwell Nottingham
They were a large haulage company whose regular work was mainly Raleigh Bicycles John Player &Sons and Boots the Chemists
The Atkinson above was most probably loaded with Raleigh Bicycles in crates destined for Liverpool Docks
Their massive yard is now a retail park and there’s a Morrisons Supermarket also on the site
If memory serves me well they moved from that site in the early 90s and moved to a smaller site at Balloon Woods
Around the same time they lost their part of the Boots contracts with that work being shared out to the remaining Nottingham Hauliers who trunked for Boots
Their final day’s where in the late 90s when they were re named MDS (Marshall Distribution Services) sadly another long established Road Transport company gone
It just goes to prove that the standards required by private hauliers were higher than BRS ( which they were !) however I do sympathise with you Gidders as at least you tried to improve yourself by leaving BRS, Marshalls probably missed the chance of gaining the services of a decent Lad, unless of course you were a typical BRS ■■■■■■ and came over as one ! I hope not ! Bewick

I hope I turned out a decent lad! The “older” drivers at BRS Nottingham were largely no help at all apart from a couple with helpful advice.Us lads were allocated the old sheds.Seddon,Ford D series,Guys and had all the crap jobs.Basically, the older hands ran the job.At the time, though,I was young, keen and green as grass.I eventually moved to BRS at Newark which was as bad as Nottingham depot. As it happens my auntie used to work in the office at ICI Wilton and put me in touch with a Dutch company who were looking for a reliable driver.Since then I never looked back and can honestly say I have enjoyed my driving life having been paid to go to places where others would have to pay to go themselves.

Hiya,
Erum.
thanks harry, long retired.
Take no notice of him, H. He’s still hoping you’ll drag yourself across the country every weekend to wash and polish his car.

Retired Old ■■■■:
I take it you haven’t found Harry’s hose pipe, yet?
At Harry’s age possibly even he has trouble finding his hosepipe, or are we talking at cross purposes? (Fed up with having to keep moving this screen across as well!)

Hiya,
I’ve worked for lot’s of haulers in my time, my own personal choice never sacked
just got bored if the routine was unvaried, but can truthfully say I am not able
to recall where the washing facilities were at any one of them even at Riding’s
where nice shiny motors were the norm I can’t recall ever seeing the washing
facilities was or of ever using them my idea of driving for a living was just that
get the thing from point A to point B wagon and load in good order and condition
back to point A and park the thing up and away home, I was the driver not the
valet, no hanging around the yard after I’d done a days work just to get ■■■■■■
through to travel home, I never loved the job enough for that if the guvnor
wanted nice shiny motors let him employ someone to do it it’s another job.
thanks harry, long retired.
Harry I see you point but you must of been told to give her a wash down every now and then ? also did you not a polish round inside ? not winding you up ! I will leave that to Dennis .
